OK, so in an attempt to make my photos better and train my eye to see things a bit differently I decided to do a free study this weekend. I started with a theme of "metal", but then after shooting for a bit decided to focus more on "metal in color". Anyway I did this to try and get a better grasp of color use in photos and hopefully to learn how to see things a bit differently. Lucky for me I found an amazing old train yard that provided me with lots of inspiration and easily allowed me to fill my 1 gig card.

Anyway, would love if you guys could check some of them out and give some feedback. I am hoping to eventually replace some of the pics in this portfolio with better ones for the theme and make a collage type of thing. Thanks.

Jason, there's some really impressive stuff in there. In fact, all of it looks impressive ... I'll be back later to look at the images in more detail, but for now I'd say I admire both the photography and the processing. Were these all shot with the same lens? Which one?

What a great idea! Nice job of making the best out of finding this location some very cool subjects, nice art! Left comments on a few I'll go back later and give them closer look. Cool Stuff

Nice work, thats a great idea, setting yourself a challenge, and taking a range of photos. You captured some great textures, I know as a designer, these would be really handy to have.

I particularly like the peeling paint, grungy textures. You could use some of these as overlays to process some grungy images.

Hehe, "Do not hump" made me laugh. Doesn't look like the best thing to hump personally ;)

Thanks for sharing

Been back, chose a favourite & left a comment. Don't forget to add a post with what lens you used ... I'm guessing the 50mm f/1.8 but I'd appreciate knowing for sure as I'm a new 350D owner & I'm trying to select a couple of lenses.

Exuberant colour.... in-camera full-frame compositions appear flawless. Inclusion of typography/graphics add enjoyable interest to the remarkable textures of the train-car subjects. A great collection.

Thanks for the comments. I used the Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro for all of the shots. The only editing I did was some RSE adjustments along with resizing in photoshop (and I cropped 1 of them). Other than they they are pretty much straight from the camera.
