Ricoh have announced the GR Digital;

I admit, I think the styling of the camera is lovely. But why no zoom? - I find this very unusual. How can they compete with Canon, Sony and Panasonic with just a fixed 28mm lens (if I'm reading it correctly)

Or is this thing more of a 'fashion statement' ?!

re read it, under specs shows a 4x digital zoom, while I do not like digi zoom, it still has a zoom

No, it isn't a fashion statement, as 28mm-wide work has rarely if ever been fashionable outside of large landscape photos - for which medium-format at the least remains the norm. This camera is aimed at those with an affection for Nachtwey-style in-your-face journalism, and anyone prepared to get really close and fill the frame with that intense deformation of view that 28mm-equivalent gives you. I think its an art camera, and if I were a photojournalist I would want to have a play with one right now. It's the sort of thing I think Leica should have been doing from the off of the digital age.

I used to have a 35mm GR Superwide, and they are incredable cameras that don't get the press they deserve. I have no problem with the fixed focal length, I just wish it was 84 degrees (24mm -35mm equ.)
