I've entered my first challenge, so therefore I am now morally obligated to participate in voting as well.
Some time ago (a few months I think) there was a thread where someone had a relatively simple scale (it was in the form of a chart) that they used in order to be consistant. I thought it was pretty neat but I can't find the thread.
Any help on this one? |

Look at the image. Pick a number from 1 to 10 that you think it deserves. Click.

I am new to this myself but whaT i try to do is the following:
If I like the subject and think i fits the cahllenge I will uaually not go under 4. If in addition there aren't big technical faults that I can see I will give a 5-7. For anything higher than that it depends on the overall feel I get from the photo, originality, exquisit techniques etc. That last part basicly means I go to some other site for a minute and come back to the photo for a fresh look. Does it impress me, 8,9 or 10.
Desclaimer: I don't do this with all my votes (butmost of them). |

That's interesting; if what you say is true shouldn't your average vote cast be above a 4?

Yes you are right. But those statistics are from before I started using the described system (which I am sure will change as I get more experienced). I don't mean to be a low voter or anything like that, but I am not good enough technically so I often rely more on "do I like it or not", which is very inconsistent. That is why I came up with my current voting scheme. To try and be more consistant. Anyway, I might still (and sometimes do) vote under 4 even if the photo does meet the challenge but is really bad technically. |

Why are you looking for someone else's voting scale? I do not want to discourage you, but art is subjective and your interpretation and appreciation will differ from the next person.
