...monitor calibration. I finally purchased some software/hardware - ColorPlus by Pantone. It has the sensor you put on screen, etc... Amazing the difference. My new LCD was set way too bright. After looking at my prior DPChallenge images submitted I wanted to wince at a few, the following one included.

This was entered in the High Contrast challenge. I was trying for two types of contrast, tonal range and subject contrast...oh well. Doesn't the second version look better? It's like I can see what I'm doing now! Of course, this doesn't help with image composition - still need a bit of work on that. ;^)

I agree the first is a bit much but I almost like it better because the revised one is more "grayscaled" to me and not as interesting. I think the trick lies more in the exposure/lighting than the color problem. Just a thought.
