This is a tough subject to judge on. It took me longer to vote on this than the others i have voted on. But Since i know viewers and voters and the photographers are from all over the world and have differnet superstitions and UL's I chose to vote on the quality and composition vs the actual meaning of the superstition and UL. I dont know what each country, city, region, town or what ever views a superstition or UL as. So to be fair to the superstition / UL i was placing more focus on the quality/composition of the photo.

Actually I think it's a poorly set up challenge. The description says,
"Keep in mind your target audience as you photograph, since this site spans the globe."
So your target audience is the Earth. I personally can't think of any superstition or UL that spans all of the Earth. So, none of the submissions meet the challenge.
Time to re-think? |

oh there are many superstitions that span the globe. There are several photos in the contest that contain superstitions found in many if not most or all cultures around the world... and one or more of these superstitions have been around for 1000's of years... take a look and see site 1
site 2 here's a nice big list
see what I mean? |

What I see is a huge list of superstitions from different countries around the world.
I don't have time to read every single one, so if you saw one that is well-known in all countries, could you please point it out?
I know I'm nit-picking here, but I really want to know.

Who said that the superstition or urban legend HAD to be known to everyone? They just suggested you keep it in mind since it might affect your score. I think they were just trying to prevent all us whiners from complaining when noone gets what our pic is. You can meet the topic 100% and some idiot still not understand it. That happens every week.
Therefore, unless you absolutely know that you are the smartest person on this website and know every superstition in the world, then it is probably pretty ridiculous for you (speaking generically) to assume that someone's picture doesn't meet this challenge. Get over it..don't show your stupidity by admitting that you stay in your house every day and are out of touch with the world! Just judge the picture based on more important things. |

Get over what? Curiousity? The desire to learn and understand?
Should I really?

Not the curiousity or desire to learn and understand, but perhaps the nit-picking? I think the challenge was worded, as someone said earlier, to remind us that this is a global site and if we choose to portray an obscure ul or superstition, be prepared for a lot of "I don't get it" remarks.

Well, if I pointed that photo out someone might suspect or think that photo was my submission. And that's a no no from what I gather. But, I do see your point about the list. You would have to read a bit to find the ones I am talking about. Guess we should wait till the voting is over to talk about it. My apologies...
