I am wondering how many of you do/have done this and how it went. How much did they go for? Just curious.

Ive tried both framed/matted and just the print. No luck. I've noticed that only a small percentage sell (if you do a photo search and see the number of bids). I don't think I'll try again for a while :(

I have sold about 15 now. Seems to be going great. I recently sold one to a radio station in the US, so that was a big buzz! :)
I have found if you keep them fairly small they seem to sell more often. Most of the ones i have sold have been around the 11.5x9.5in framed. Pics are only 6x8. I have a couple on there now being watched.
They average around the $35-$40 mark. Considering they cost me $6.00 total i think that is a nice little profit. Doesnt break their bank, so it is good for them and good for me.
Hope this helps :)

is there a certain genre of photography that seems to sell more often? like portraits or landscapes, etc?

There was a thread about this a while ago. Actually, i decided to have a go at it myself - with bugger all result. I'm selling in the UK only so it's probably a bit different from selling international... but here, the only things that seem to sell in contemporary photography are paparazzi photos of kate moss, and the only things that sell in self-representing photographers are appalling badly focused shots of kittens and sunsets.

Here's my current auction (no bids, ONE watcher)

I'm considering doing this myself but first have to find out the tax implications, since I've registered with Revenue Canada to charge sales tax. Here in Canada, you aren't required to charge sales tax unless your company has $60,000 in annual sales. There is an advantage however for a small business starting out in that you can get a refund if the sales tax you collect is less than the sales tax you pay when you make business purchases. Sorry for side tracking.

More often than not the photos of mine that sell are black and white landscapes. I have sold 1 flower shot and the rest have been b&w landscapes. I just went and hung a pic in a local cafe and had 4 lovely comments from customers, so hopefully that will sell soon too.
