i think that the best place to go would be central park... maybe start on the north end closest to where ridergal already is, and steadily head south.

by the time i get out of work, i could meet you guys on the south end of the park by columbus circle or so...

and then maybe times square at night? or the village?

any thoughts?

Ok, but what are those of us arriving before 4pm interested in doing as well? I think that frisca and I will arrive around lunchtime - maybe a bit before, depending on traffic and what everyone else has in mind. We had the thought of doing a 10am til 10pm day in the city - something along those lines...and being my first real "photographic" trip to the city, I'm interested in Central Park, Times Square (night?) and maybe ...? Sights...Just things worth shooting for a touristy photographer - we'll find our regular shots as we move, but I want to shoot NYC too.

Anytime is good for me, i will be coming into the city by train probably alone, so if i could meet up with anyone in grand central that would be a big help to me.

Hey Talya,
I see in your profile that you will be working with USA Today people. I have a cousin who is a sports writer for USA Today! His name is Tom Pedulla.
I'm originally from NYC but live in Florida now...with many stops in between. Wish I could meet a lot of you but I won't be able to.
Have fun!

Interesting, never knew that (but come to think of it, there are camera crews set up here and there occasionally). I've been going to college in Pittsburgh for the past 4 years, and I honestly think the city kind of sucks. I've graduated, but my apartment lease isn't up until next July, so I have another year here. I've never thought Pittsburgh to be very interesting: the majority of the stable demographic is old people and "yinzers" (you'll know what I mean if you've ever been here).

The nightlife downtown is non-existent, you have to go to a surrounding area (Station Square, South Side, or the Strip District). Oakland is alright, mainly because it's a college community and the yinzers (along with their incoherent jargon) can be avoided for the most part.

Also, heres a quote from a
Forbes magazine article on Pittsburgh: "Square and stagnant Pittsburgh finished last." Btw, this fine city got the honor of last place again this year!

Likewise, the drive to NYC is a bit far, especially since I don't have a car! I'd be up for a Pittsburgh photo shoot too, despite all my negative comments about the city. Maybe someone else (Alan) knows some good locations to shoot in the city.

Don't know... depends where we're meeting. Either train, to subway, drive to subway, or something. I probably will not drive in the city.

So I thought maybe we could meet near or on Columbia's campus... for those of you parking near me it's a block away and it has some beautiful architecture... plus it's easily accessible from the 1/9 train... just an idea... from there, if your up for some awesome pizza we can walk a few blocks to Koronets... the slices are HUGE... and I'm not exaggerating... for most people one slice is enough! Plus a slice of cheese is only 2.50 and if you want toppings each topping is a dollar... believe me it's a very good deal... then from there we can head to Central park... what does everyone else think? Any other ideas? This is going to be a whole lot of fun!

Columbia sounds like a great place to meet. We are aiming to be in NYC at around 11am. What time would you like to meet? If we are in NYC earlier than people are expecting, we can check out the city a bit on our own - if not, we can meet around 11, walk around Columbia with whoever's already there and then get that great pizza when we're tired of walking the campus (which is beautiful).

My question about Columbia is - where in relation to Low Library are you? Broadway, College Walk, Amsterdam or W. 120th side?

That's a map of Columbia for all those who will need it! :)

Thanks

Ditto here. I can give my cell phone number and, if you have Nextel, my radio-ID as well.

I am under the impression that we have four distinct groups now:

people who live within 30 mins - shutterfly, ridergal
11am arrivers - mavrik, frisca, clubjuggle
2pm arrivers - mag, anita
4pm arrivers - satellitespeck

Tolyanchik, Matts - what time and how are you arriving? If either of you are coming into GCS, coordinate with shutterfly.

Maybe people - what's up? E301, Jacko?, etc?
06/09/2003 05:21:17 PM · #68
Clubjuggle, i also have nextel and direct connect. Depending on train times, it should take me an hour and a half to get to GCS..Do you or anyone else want to meet me there about 11 or so..

Is this happening this Saturday?
Where we meet?Colombia college is huge place!
Who we contact upon arrival?
More questions later...

I think the 11am people should meet on the steps of Low Library at Columbia. It's in the center of campus and pretty much the easiest thing to find. Mag and Anita can call my cell to find us at 2pm and we're supposed to meet SatSpeck at 4pm at the south? end of Central Park. That's what I know so far.

Saturday June 14th, 11am til the leaving people must leave.
You can email me mantonino@hotmail.com or ridergal (her email is above) with any other questions, and I'll PM you with my cell for "arrival."
