I took a picture of a Grass Hopper today and I focused on his head. His head was blurry but behind the head was in focus. I'm assuming this might be back focus. Would this be a problem with the lens or the body? I had the body serviced at Canon not too long ago so I wouldn't think it would be the body.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Did you focus (half press of the shutter) and recompose? If focus wasn't locked (flashing green circle in viewfinder) then when recomposing the camera will refocus.

First of all assume user error. When you can consistantly reproduce an error and have excluded all the other faults, look at the camera system.

Just a thought

The 350D, or Rebel XT as you yanks like to say, has a selectable 7 point focus. Did you manually select the focus point in the viewfinder or leave it on auto. I assume you know what your doing and this is obvious and been covered by you but I just thought I'd ask.

No refocus needed. Same result repeated several times. Center focus used. Nothing fancy here, just point, focus, no camera shake, and the back focus result occurs on every shot.

All lenses or just the one lens?
Also, have you tried with AF and then MF?

I've only tried with my Tamron 28-75.

I only tried AF.

You need to set up a test for this. Use a ruler at an angle, a tripod, and mirror lockup if the xt has it. Cable release or self-timer. Focus MANUALLY on a specific number, shoot several frames of the same shot, and compare. This will give you a baseline from which to proceed.
