Every morning is a new experience. Will It be a feild mouse, will it be a snake, will it be a bird. On a slim day just a big bug of some sort.
My two cats are killers, and every day they feel they need to drag it into the house. I have spoken with them several times to just keep their kill outside...but they must pull it through the doggie door and into the house.
Are you cats killers also?

Nope, ours is indoors only... I'm near the mountains around LA, and coyotes are roaming the streets here at night and sometimes daylight. Lots of "missing cat" signs around here. |

my cat lays on my chest with her face against my face. we talk to each other and cuddle for about 10 minutes, then she moves to the foot of my bed and sleeps there.

They make it a point to walk on tables, chairs, bookshelves and basically anything that they'd be forbidden to walk on during the day. Then they get all dressed up and sometimes throw plates and glasses at each other. Then they get so exhausted that they start scratching on our bedroom door and won't stop until they are allowed in, to curl at our feet. |

Ummm, that is the reason why you are supposed to keep cats indoors at night, especially if they are killing native animals, the least you could do is to put a bell on the cats collar.

Bruce often helps me vote and comment on photos. If he is not too busy huntin' for gators. He also likes Letterman, Conan and other late night talk shows. He really likes to bug Sheila while she's trying to read too.

Sleeps like a Baby...
(spoiled thing too)
About a year ago, she would snuggle up to her stuffed "Momma Kitty" when she slept.
(still has it, and VERY protective of it)
And then there is always
The house is safe at night though.
Food, water & litter box goes in the bedroom, assuming the recliner wasn't where I crashed & burned for the night, in which case, Annabelle seems to find play time around 4AM or so - shame I don't hear it though.
ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz

i disagree stormy,, cats are naturally killers and hunters, i have four cats and they are out every night,,, infact many cat breeders will tell you that keeping a cat indoors isn't right.. i have no problems with someone wanting to keep their cat as an indoor pet but i do feel that pet would be a happier one outdoors... theres an old saying that a cat chooses its owner and not the other way around... this is very true, we have a cat that visits everyday, gets on great with our own 4 cats and has chosen us as a second owner... unlike a dog, a cat won't stay around with an owner they don't like....

Bonnie:
And Clyde:
Spend most nights sleeping on me at the moment. Although right now they're asleep on the couch in the lounge. :-).
In the middle of summer they go out and terrorise the local mice, but winter it's inside for them...

I couldn't resist posting here...I can see Stormy's point about keeping cats inside because I have worked at a wildlife center for the past 5 and a half years. A good number of the patients we get in are from domestic pet attacks. Yes its in a cats nature to hunt and bring home the capture with a certain amount of pride at providing for the family unit. But it plays havoc on our native wildlife with puncture wounds to the lungs etc... often times not killing the animals they catch and very unlucky for those who get away and die a slow and painful death internally and externally with broken limbs. Cats with homes have no need to hunt anymore.. so you will hear biologist's, vets, shelters advocate for the domesticated cats to be kept indoors for their health and safety as well.
ON the other side .. I totally see Stphq's point about cats choosing their owners.. We have a cat who chose us and kept coming back even after we would return her to her person. Finally her former person came over one day with her blanket, favorite toy and a tear in her eye and admitted that the little darlin would be happier here. SHE is Queen and Princess and everything else royal in this house.. she used to be outdoors and now is more than content with being inside even when opportunities arise for her to go explore outside she'll choose not to. We currently have another cat who has adopted us as well.. Its amazing to witness.
Funny story: Had a cat: Cinder, (passed away after 15 years this past Christmas) who was let out by roommates come home with something in her mouth. I happened to look out and see her racing towards the house and being the smart person I am closed the sliding screen. She got to the screen reached and slid it open trotting proudly in and dropping a mouse on the floor in front of me. (keep in mind wildlife and i get along great..its just a mouse) NOOO i'm up on the bar stool losing my mind at having a *live* mouse in my house.. in a panic i asked my friend who was on the phone to come save me.. wasnt possible. There i was.. a little frightened mouse, my proud cat and me on a bar stool. My cat proceeds to toss the mouse in the air and chase it... being the protector of the innocent and at risk *social worker from birth* lol .. I gathered my cat up locked her in the bathroom and caught the mouse which I released in a lush garden down the alley..
** Cinder was my bedmate for 15 years she'd purr me to sleep snuggled in by my neck ** was hard to sleep for a while after she passed.
*thanks for this thread .. hadnt thought about that story in years*

Sorry but I am about to gush! Be prepared!
Our cat, Willow, is 19 years old and going well. She sleeps a lot nowadays but is able to jump onto bed, run up and down stairs, go out through the cat flap for a nightly saunter in the garden and give filthy looks at the dogs if they disturb her!
She has moved with us four times, from town where she dealt with traffic, strange dogs and other cats, to country where she roamed the fields bringing us trophies of shrews, mice, frogs and the occasional baby bird and back to town. Her hunting days are over and she now just dreams of slinking through the grass and pouncing for the kill but she enjoys life as far as we can know, sleeps curled around my head after the five minute head scratch she demands and then wakes me up in the morning with a determined paw.
After all these years I cannot imagine being without her but I know we are really on borrowed time, ( although the new vet recently looked at her teeth, looked at her records and did a double take - he thought she was 12ish), but when she does finally die, I know she will have had a wonderful life and given us tremendous pleasure and love.

I love cats, but we did have to put down ours after 19 years. He finally slowed to the point he would try to jump up on our beds but couldn't. His life had lost its quality. I do miss him.
Months later when we finished grieving and were able to talk happily about our cat with each other, I told my daughter if she didn't move out we were thinking of doing the same to her. She now is a proud home owner, and my husband and I are remodeling our house and enjoying our independence. (BTW, I have great hard-working daughters who are more like the sisters I never had).

Can't help but feel I am opening a can of worms here BUT.............
give me a dog over a cat anyday! Cats are unreliable, they only let you pet them when they are in the mood, they turn nasty much quicker than a nice doggy and they bring me out in a rash!!!!! LOL.
There are many reasons cats don't have the title 'mans best friend!, too many to list here

They're just different! I have two dogs and the cat and they give in different ways, love in different ways and are loved in different ways.
When I want calm and tactile pleasure, the cat comes up trumps. When I want fun, unconditional adoration and exercise then it's the dogs!
When I want hair then they both seem to give without restraint but at least the cat's paws are smaller when it comes to muddy footprints and she cleans herself and doesn't roll in fox poo!
:)

Can't we just like both? I love dogs too, but they're a lot harder to leave for a weekend. LOL!
