I've taken advantage of the High Contrast challenge to do some experiments in high contrast conversion.
For these images, I used the watercolor filter and crosshatch filter to, of all things, preserve the integrity of the photos--parts anyway. What they did was allow me to preserve the textures while still getting a lot of contrast. I've found that often, texture and details are lost when I add contrast.

After applying each filter--to the full sized image--I used the Fade command to fade the effect to about 25-30%.
If nothing else, I did find that it was fun to see how to use the various Photoshop filters creatively to enhance my photos.

Wonderufl layering of compositions, Dave. Top-notch work as always. The only one that doesn't settle with me is the "It's a living" shot. The perspective just does not seem to be the best for the situation and I feel IMHO that there is a bit too much breathing room of nothingness above the clouds. Also, minorly, in Death and Life the horizon seems tilted a couple of degrees to the left.
Great shots though! I'm glad that you've started submitting again after a small hiatus.
