I remember him on Dobbie Gillis, too. Wasn't his name Maynard on that series?
He was very good in both roles. He really was a perfect Gilligan.
Does anyone know which characters from that series are still around? |

It's true, here's a link.
I also recall reading that none of those actors ever received a penny of the money their show made in syndication. I spent many hours watching that show. I was a "mary ann" man. Guys from my generation will know what I'm talking about.

Here's another for Mary Ann...
...man, every day after school was Gilligan's Island. Making me feel old knowing that Gilligan isn't with us any more.

| my generation guys were mainly 'ginger' guys..and us girls thought the 'professor' was a gift from heaven.. (mind you, my dad quite fancied mary ann, so strangeghost, he would probably know what you mean :)...this was happening in the late 70's in turkey..we had the old old re-runs dubbed in turkish on TRT (Turkish National Television) it was a national favorite back then.. and i think gilligans island was a classic around the world mainly due to the character gilligan himself..A tribute to him and all those other performers in the series that probably didn't ever know they touched millions around the world.. |

I think we should do a speed challenge (I say we, like I'm a paid member, geez) to show tribute to them. It was a great show (loved the gorilla one the best I think). Not sure what the topic would be, maybe items to take on a deserted island?

Ah Maynard, who was allergic to work, and freaked out at the mere mention of the word. Thanks for the memories Bob Denver.

Ah, I couldn't remember if the middle initial was G. or V. ... on my recent trip, my mom related the story of the guy who created Gilligan's Island, and how he went about "pitching" the series to the network executives.
"Yes, just like a microcosm of society ... but a funny microcosm!"
Amazingly, the show only ran three seasons ...
Bob Denver was also in some of the classic surfer movies of the time.

According to an interview with Bob Denver, Gilligan's Island was cancelled in order to keep Gunsmoke on the air even though Gilligan's Island was a much higher rated show at the time, because some top executive's wife preferred Gunsmoke and didn't want to see it cancelled. Gunsmoke was cancelled within a few years nonetheless. TV executives don't have that kind of power nowdays.
So long, Little Buddy, thanks for the memories.
(P.S. A Mary Ann man here.) |

here, here.....Least we forget, Mr. Rogers. and Capt. Kangaroo...both gone....Oh, and Mr Hooper...at least puppets don't die. Big Bird is still around!!! However, they changes the format to Seame Street and it's too PC...but I don't want to get on that. Let Gillgan have his own thread.
