Still going...Had a serious urge that I almost gave in to lastnight and hubby didnt help by offering to go get me a pack. It was dark( and we have lots of black bears around my house that make nightly visits to our garbage) so instead of going for my walk i went and laid in a hot bath and just vegged out for about an hour with candles and music. Im actually still water logged a bit :o)

Great stuff! Is it me, or are you becoming more creative in these self expressions ?

I cannot beleive how awefull I was to my wife when I stopped. I'm glad she didn't give in though.

Good luck. Almost there.

Yeah..i decided to go digging in my linen closet for the lace curtain and my stack of sewing material for my "top" :o) (same ones used for my BG yesterday)the BG is actualy a plum table cloth but when i adjusted levels it went black on me. I tried setting up a light behind me but the table cloth fabric is a bit shiney so those photos were trashed quickly. thanks for the compliment*hugs* and support

I did this one for you Cher, since you said you'd like to see the eyes in color and you are trying to stop smoking, I went and fixed this for you. Hope you like! I'm very proud of you, keep it up!

I must confess even tho it will cause me to lose face with some of you. I broke down yesterday and had 3 cigs. I just couldnt take it anymore. I feel like shit for doing it and felt guilty yesterday everytime i lit one up. i would light it take a few puffs and stubb it out:o( but I HAVE started my no smoking again today so these(self portraits) will continue with the "begin again" title. this one isnt as "artistic" as yesterday but i was kinda rushed this morning trying to get it done before my girls got up and asked why i was taking a picture of me in my bra(LOL) just didnt feel like having to explain that one quite yet.

I hope too many of you dont think too bad of me for being weak...I will try being stronger and i wont give up quitting until i have truly done so. thanks for all your support *hugs* :o) Cher

Hey don't beat yourself up about the slip - 3 is much better than 20! I know how hard it is - I am on day 3 of quitting and finding it hard. I gave up for 7 years and then went back to 20 a day but I am trying again and hopefully I'll get there!

Just take a day at a time and do your best.

Regards and hugs

My vice is chocolate. I did pretty good giving it up for a month, but then gave in during a stressful time. I am still not totally off of it, but really have cut back.

You will make it. If you were perfect, we couldn't stand you! :o)

I really like your self portrait idea. Maybe you should make daily entries with them (about how you're feeling, how the cravings are or aren't, what you did that day etc.) and print it all out as sort of a journal.

Cher, I think your doing a great thing for yourself and your family.
I used to be a heavy smoker myself - dang near a chain smoker. I had smoked from age 13 until I was 27 and received a phone call that my father, also a smoker had just been diagnosed with lung cancer. At the time my daughter was just 18 mos old, and being that we had no money to travel from MI to AZ, my father had never even held his granddaughter yet. He died before we could scrape together enough to make the trip. It was then that I was finally able to quit. Had tried and failed a couple times before. But now I had a motivating force. I threw out every cig the day my father died. I swore my daughter would not have to bury her mother when she was only in her twenties. I want live to hold my grandchildren. When the urges would come, I went and did something, anything, with my daughter. If she was sleeping, I just layed down beside her. If she was playing, I got on the floor and played. If she wasn't busy with some toys or games, I sat down and read her a book. I look back now and find that after the first week, I no longer had the urge to smoke. It was replaced by more time spent on my daughter - on life.
When the urge or thought of a cig pops into your head, refocus on your kids, and let them take your mind off it.

Good Luck. You can do this!

- Linda

p.s. my daughter is now 18 years old and started college last week. I'm still smoke free and will always be.

OK Cher, How's it going?
I'm chewing gum nonstop but have managed to desist from strangling anyone yet. The cat is first on the list!

Keep smiling - I know from experience that we will get through this and in a few weeks we will be boasting to everyone that we've cracked it and feeling very proud!

Day by day remember!

Hi guys n gals

sorry i havent posted any self portraits since saturday. I decided sunday would be a great day to clean my entire house from floor to celings(and a few celings too) then monday i decided i just couldnt stand my living room and my oldests room set up the way it was any longer so i spent the day rearranging both rooms. after all that heavy lifting and pushing i have gave myself another strain in my back. you would think i would get used to these things or quit doing things i know are going to cause it (such as shoving my couch to the other side of the room). hubby decided since i did that yesterday it was a good chance to pretty much chew me out for not waiting till he got home to help me. I tend to think i can do it all by myself but end up paying for it for a few days. needless to say i am pretty much confined to the bed(moved to the couch for a change of scenery) at least for today. I have taken my back meds and they make me pretty groggy. sorry...just couldnt handle the running back and forth setting timer and jumping in the frame in 10 seconds to pose. not moving that fast today at all.Im hopeing to begin the self portraits again tomorrow but as of right now i am not so sure if i will be moving around that fast.

I am still smoke free(day 4 for me wooohooo!) Definately feeling the stress of no nicotine and trapped laying down. cravings seem to be real bad today(maybe cause im bored to death today). I finally got my disability hearing set up for november 8( signed up march 2004) so for me this is GREAT news. i have been waiting for a hearing for a year and a half now. now i just hope the judge isnt an ass!

edit to add: my dog(rudy) is the first on my kill list. he decided he liked my chewing gum and needed it more than me so he got my huge pack of big red out of my purse lastnight and chewed the whole pack up! I got up this morning to pieces of chewed gum all over my house! grrrr

Hi Cher
Glad to see you back - sorry about your problems but keep smiling- day 4 and still going!
Keep yourself busy.

Print off some of your photos and build up an album for each of your kids from birth. My mother has been doing this for us for a few years and has also one of my father and herself and one for during their 49 years of marriage. When she finally leaves us the albums will be there for each child and grandchild to keep and we'll fight over the albums of her and dad!

The other idea which I must do at some time is start a journal of memories of the family. Those things people won't remember in the future like how you met your husband and where, where you went on holiday and the silly things that happened in the family ( my father once lost his false teeth in a lake in Italy and had them retrieved three days later by a fisherman!), the pets you had and christmas presents you gave the children. you know the sort of thing. It doesn't have to be in order or perfect but it will keep those memories alive for the children when they are older.

Don't be bored! Write to the local newspaper about something, research something - anything to keep your mind off the dreaded weed!

Think of the money you will be saving from not smoking! With ciggies about $5/6 a pack in the UK I will be saving about £30 = $70 (?) a week!

I'm confused about what you mean by the cost of scrap books and things involved. What sort of thing do you mean?

You can start small and let your creativity take over. My first scrapbook I had not taken any fancy class or bought fancy stuff. I bought about $10.00 worth of scrapbook paper and a few little stickers and stuff. I used a lot of what I had around the house, sewing notions and bits of craft stuff. I cut paper into all sorts of shapes, borders, etc. I used anything I could find to go with the subject - like old maps for vacation shots, ticket stubs for concerts, some of her old school papers for school shots.

I didn't have the money (still don't!) to really get in to it, but was really happy with the results. You can also get some good scrap book deals on Ebay. There are also many Internet sites about scrapbooking that can give you good ideas, and even some things to print off.

Way to go for giving up the ciggies!!! You CAN do it, you ARE doing it and your whole family will benefit from it.

Just get a writing pad from the local shop (Woolmart??) and pick up a pen! Don't worry about fancy albums it's what you write and the memories you are passing on that matter. And if you can't manage printing off your pics at present just spend time organising them on your computer so that they are ready when yopu can manage it.

I think this scrapalbums idea is a bit different in the US than in UK so I'm off to research on the internet. We just put pics in a album which we usually buy very cheaply in the local stationers unless it is a wedding or something like that!
