I have a brother who is going for his phD in Entomology. And while he was home visiting us last week, he and I took a trek to a local nature conservation area to hunt for bugs (or in my case, take photos of bugs). Below are some of the better pictures that I took that day. Comments and/or critiques are welcome. And of course, if you're spooked by creepy crawlies, look away now! :)

Enjoy!

A bumblebee gathering pollen on some goldenrods.

A grasshopper playing peek-a-boo.

A grasshopper that failed the auditions for the Radio City Rockettes.

A very furry, stripey-legged spider (if anyone knows the species of this particular spider in question, I'd be grateful...spiders are not in my brother's particular area of expertise.)

An interesting, indigo-coloured damselfly (itself a smaller relative of the dragonfly).

A gorgeous monarch butterfly.
