Just thought I'd mention that one possible option for people wanting to donate "supplies" might be Walmart. We live in CA, far from Katrinas damage. We are still trying to help in the disaster relief by donating money and "supplies". We discovered yesterday that the local Walmart was accepting donations and they handed out a list of specifics. I'm not sure if all Walmarts are doing this but odds are good that many are I'm guessing. The list we used had items like diapers, wipes, personal hygiene products listed on it. We just went through Walmart and bought a bunch of wet wipes and shampoos, etc. and they had bins at the front to put them in. They take it all to where it is needed.
Not sure what helps the most or the fastest, either supplies or money, but figured we would just cover both bases and hopefully be a help to someone that needs it.
It pains me also to see what they have had to endure and continue to endure. I cannot look at stories of it or the stories of the people who are selflessly helping and volunteering without wanting to cry.
Anyways, just wanted to mention that in case there were people who may not have much to donate but would like to help in whatever way they can, this may be an option for them :) They also had a thing to donate money in, even change, my kids used that and even spent their own money on shampoo, etc. so the Walmart we went to had several options to make it easy to help, maybe yours does too? |
