Anyone have any ideas what can be done to make this a better pic?

Re-shoot it?

Did you use Neatimage in the post processing?

That's not a very nice thing to say to someone, is it?

I was playing around with Paint Shop Pro 9. I used the Edge Preserving Smooth and Digital Noise Removal tools.

And yes, I'll reshoot, someday.

I think it looks pretty smooth the way it is.

I not trying to be nice. The lion's paws are cut off and he has ears coming out of his back. I know, honesty sucks, but re-shoot it.

You don't read well when it's convenient to be "honest" though. The OP asked how to make THIS a nicER pic. He isn't asking how to take a better pic of the lion.

I really like the smooth look but since recieving a number of "too much Neatimage" comments myself, I'm rethinking my use of noise reduction tools.

Again, I like the look of the photo but it may be a little too "dolled up".

Nice shoot.

In answer - I'd burn the left side to put more emphasis on the face. Maybe a gradient that fades from L (dark) to R (lighter). Run sharpness on LAB and that's about all.

Since the composition is trashed by cutting off the lions paws, crop it tighter to emphasize the lions mane and head. Fill the frame with the lions mane and let the eyes go into the upper third of the frame. Also lighten up on the noise reduction. Hope that helps.

Mr. Battilana needs to learn to play nice :P

Just my thoughts, maybe crop out JUST below his mane, then blur the background, or clone the other lions out? I think that would make a very nice close up of his "face"! Jacque

Please let's not start a flame war. I asked what could be done to help. I have a thick skin. Tell me my picture sucks. I can take it. But tell me why it sucks.

As for the advice, thanks to all. I knew the lion in back was a problem. Still need to learn to use the clone tool. The paws were cut off in the camera. I missed 'em. I didn't really notice it until mentioned. That's the kind of stuff I need to be aware of. Thanks.

What would you suggest I re-shoot? I mean because if it needs to be re-shot I would much rather hear that then some "Really nice shot. I wouldn't touch anything" crap. Being nice only goes so far. I would much rather people were honest with me. I looked at Marc's portfolio before I made the comment and I can see that he is proficient enough with his equipment to do well composed shots. He's not some kid just starting out with a P&S. I would hope he would expect honesty.

If he just wants to play with this in photoshop to see what he can do fine. If I took the picture I would re-shoot it.
