It is a bit difficult to consider gtgs and having fun with all the pain and sufferring that our fellow citizens are experiencing. As we go about our lives we should all realize that what happened with Hurricane Katrina could happen anywhere - maybe not by hurricane but tornado, earthquake, or an ice-storm.
The National DPC GTG Day - Unofficially that I propose is a result of the various gtg that are being planned. Folks in Philadelphia, Lower/Mid-Michigan, Georgia, LA, London, Yorkshire, Zurich, NYC, and of course Ohio are all considering gtgs in September and October. I think it would be a cool idea to maybe title the day, have t-shirts and/or hats made up to acknowledge the day, and donate the proceeds to Katrina victims.
What do you think?

proceeds of what though? No money is made at a g2g...
plus, I dont think having tshirts or hats made up is cost efficient when theres usually only about 5 people at these things. I have no problem labeling it as a natioanl dpc g2g day, but unless 40 people show up like in DC, I cant see hats or shirts being made. Good idea though.

Sorry, I'm going to sound really mean but
a) what proceeds?
b) why go to the expense of t- shirts etc and not just donate the cash if you want to?
I just don't see how this will help.
Maybe I'm being dense and I admire the offers of profits from prints etc and more practical help in the USA but here in England I think I'd rather donate through the red cross or similar.
I really don't want to appear mean but this needs thinking through if it's not going to be an empty gesture.

If you make enough tee-shirts you can get them for just a few bucks each. If everyone who attended a DPC GTG paid cost-plus-10 dollars for a tee shirt, this would add up to a fair chunk of change for donation. There's a REASON people raising money for charity produce goods for sale; it CHANNELS money in a way that seeking pure donations does not. This may be sad, but it's a fact of life.
This is a workable concept if someone can organize and expedite it. Ideally it would have good graphic design and be well-made.

Bear, thanks for your support. This was just an idea that I came up with after seeing all of the gtgs being planned. I don't want to sound mean - but, if you have to reread the original post - I think I explained my idea in a good way, especially considering that the idea is still in its infancy.
Some of us are planning to join the gtgs. I figured we could raise $$$ for Katrina victims through tshirts and/or hats (and whatever else) while we are also raising the camaraderie of DPCers. Again it is just an idea.
If it is meant to be we would have to design a logo and arrange for the items to be available. I think even folks who don't join the gtgs may be interested in having a tshirt. I definitely think this could work. |

Hi Joy, I posted this in the Atlanta GTG thread as well, but I'll post it here to. Our GTG is this weekend, only 2 days away so it would be really difficult to put this into effect for our outing. But I did put an offer to our attendees that if they would like to donate some non-perishables or clothing, I'd be more than happy to take it to the local shelter here where they have flown in some of the hurricane victims. I like your idea of doing something to help, so this is what I've come up with. Maybe someone else has a better idea.
