Is there one? What exactly happens when I send a private message? The recipient just gets an email right?

a private message is a way people can contact one another with out having to give out your email address.

if you display your email address anywhere on the web you are very likely going to get a TON-O-SPAM.

I think one big difference is that you can't 'reply' to a private message. And you can stil send a pm to a person without knowing their email address.

But there is always a link within the PM to PM that person back!

open up the email of the PM and click the link, its just as easy as the reply button. you do have to wait a little longer though

hmmm, interesting, maybe it's an 'aol' thing. when I have a pm opened, yes in the body it gives the link, but in mine, it's not a 'clickable' link, just the actual text.

It maybe? I know when I get a PM it's a clickable link! Takes me straight to writing a message to that person.

AOL doesn't allow links in emails, you have to cut and paste.

One thing I do not like about PM's is that they strip out all the formatting :) That was one of my suggestions for site improvements :)

taterbug, its probablle an aol thing, I use outlook 2002.

I dont have a clue as to how aol email works at all, but there may be some type of setting to allow clicky links in emails

I just use good ole Outlook Express for my mail! I've got Outlook here with my Office package but it doesn't always let through all the attachments so I tend to stick with Express. It does everything I want it to!

Not true, I receive clickable links every day. However, not with the PMs from DPChallenge. I've lived on AOL for 9 years. You can Disable links, however, I have mine active and still don't get a clickable link in the PMs. I think it must be a DPC thing. *shrug*

It's probably because DPC sends emails in (RFC standard) plain text, rather than (non-standard) rich text or html, and the AOL mail client isn't parsing the text to look for links.
