I give you the freedom to fix my family photo. It is me (looking really tired and with a big sweater on looking really overweight which I am not... i am an average size eight) and my kids and since I am the one taking pics all the time -- I am never in them. But this one needs to go in the scrapbook .. and no matter what i do it doesn't look right because it is me .. Long Day with the Family, sloppy clothes, and no time for hair = bad mom Photo
please fix this someonetext

Thank you for trying so hard-- i think its just one of those I am going to have to grin and bear it and add tons of stuff to onthe scrapbook page to look better.... I just wish I had been in more of them that day.
In photos where I don't look to good for travelers bloat and lack of good nutrition.. I used bubbles and disney characters to join the photo.. I think I will have to think of something here

Here is my go at it....
I soften some of the look at took that telescope thing behind your head out --a bit distracting.

Okay...the person in the background was bugging me - she wasn't suppose to be in your family picture...so I took her out. Then I thought I had inadvertantly bleached out your face, so I added back some color.
I think I like this one better....

Here's a somewhat different approach. Note rotation of image to vertical and gaussian blur of BG, light desaturation of subjects.

You compressed it a bit in the width didn't you? Was one of the first things I tried as well, got as far as 615px wide instead of 640px without obvious strangeness about the look of the photo.
The original looks a bit like it was taken with a too wide lens.

Thank you to everyone.. I am so impressed... even my kids look distorted in this one too... not that anyone did that... It was just my 18-55 mm lens that came with the nikon... all my pictures turned out great that day-- check out some of the shots in my portfolio... the ocean ones

I think I was the only one that really dealt with your statement of "looking overweight even though you are not". All of the other edits in this thread took various steps to "fix the image" but not the "looking overweight when you're not" issue.

I just wanted to mention what I did in case others don't pick up on it:

1) I first squeezed the picture a bit (did a transform | Scale and reduced the horizontal size of the picture). This, of course, affected everything. I tried not to take it too far. I didn't want you or the kids looking distorted.

2) I then "cut out" parts of the left and right sides of the sweater! I basically copied the left and right sides of the images, then pasted them in closer to the center. And cloned and/or masked out any oddities that occured along the way. This helped further reduce your "width" without affecting anything else in the picture.

3) Then I smoothed out the wrinkles in your shirt ... wrinkles often make you look fatter. Especially the shadows that show up under the wrinkles.

4) And speaking of shadows, I tried to lighten your chest just a bit while darkening your stomach. The desired effect was to make your tummy look flatter.

5) And then I used liquify tool to change the lines in how the sweater draped itself down your body to help define your figure a little more.

6) Edit: Almost forgot, I also did a little dodge/burn around your face to give your face more of a 3-d effect. By darking the left and right edges, it makes you look skinnier. This has a BIGGER overall effect on your face than did the very first step which squeezed the whole picture.

Anyway, it's MORE than I would generally do to "doctor" a photo, but it was a fun little exercise. Thanks for putting up with all of us and our edits! :-)

Actually, no you're not, if you'll look at the pic I posted.

I removed most of the double chin which resulted from her looking down.
I removed the fold of her shirt which resulted from her leaning forward
I added about 1/4 inch to the sweater on the left of the photo.
I fixed the coloration in her skin tone resulting from her being tired.
