I just wanted to share the good news with you all....I got the job at Marquette General Hosp[ital !!! I am so happy!! They just opened a new Emergency Department which is where I'll be. I am so excited. I start September 12th
That means only 2 more weekends of having to drive 100 miles to work and back. The new job is only 24 miles from home. Instead of 12 hour shifts 3 days in a row, I will work 8 hr shifts 5 days a week. On top of it all, I get a dollar more per hour!

Congratulations!
You'll enjoy the shorter commute and the consistency of the hours, I'm sure.
But, I can't help myself here but to say, you're saving appx. 60 miles less per week. Which, depending on what you drive is 2-3 gallons of gas. Which, depending on where you live is less than $3 per gallon. Which is a savings of appx. $10 per week or $500 per year. (Not counting the savings from having to idle during rush hour, of course.) So you are making a bit of profit and saving some time (perhaps, except you have to shower and dress 2 more days a week).
CONCLUSION: In 1 year you can buy an awesome L-lens because you'll need something faster to optimize you fewer days off.
Enjoy the new position and save one of those "special" white jackets for me in case I have to check in. =) |

I would love an L lens but don't see me having enough money for one anytime soon. At my current job, I drive 100 miles one way (about $40 rund trip in my gas guzzling truck), stay at a hotel for the weekend ($92). So a work week costs me $132.00
My new job is 24 miles one way, or 240 miles a week - about $100 a week in gas. (No idling in rush hour here - we don't have heavy traffic ever!) So I save $32, not counting the pay increase. But - here's the kicker - I have a daughter just starting in a private art college next week. Her school will be approx. $21,000 a year for the next 4 years. Yikes!!! And being the sweet mommy that I am, I told her that her parents were going to pay back her student loans for her as our contribution to her future. I'll be taking as many over-time hours as I can possibly get for the next 10-20 yuears. lol
Conclusion: My birthday is September 16th - feel free to take up a collection for a L-lens for ShutterPug :-)
Edited for typos: must learn to proof-read before posting. lol

Just make sure that the parent's don't kick in for low grades!
She fails out (as one of my brothers did) and the bill is on her.
Deeeeeeep breath!
All is good.

Actually we have an agreement with her that anything under a C she pays. I told her if it's not a C, then it's below average. And since she is above average in all senses, that a below average grade made no sense. This reasoning made sense to her and she agreed. Tank goodness the school gave her a $14,000 scholarship spread over the 4 years or else we would have even more to pay back!
