I thought I read something where people might be changing their votes order to boost their own entry by voting someone elses down. I may be way off base, but somehow it doesn't seem fair that you can change your votes all week until the votes are all in. Seems like 24 hours should be enough. It would probably be a programming nightmare to do it any differently, but it would seem more fair if each time you voted on a photo you get 24 hours to change your mind before it sticks. I wonder if this would change the outcome of some of the challenges. I know when there are so many entries it sometimes takes more than one setting at the computer to vote and comment on one challenge, so what I am saying may be impossible. It's just a thought, since it's all in fun anyway, it doesn't matter if it's 100% infalible.

a lot of people sort thier votes into groups and then come back as time allows and alot those grouped photos into thier "proper" score.
I often accidently click a photo or two into mt low group which belongs in my high group and ends up with a 8-9.

People that play malicously do not last long on sites like this because they realise it doesnt work.

Because of the number of entries on most challenges - I go through and over a period of several days give each photo an initial vote. Then I go back and see how the photos group - do like images have similar votes and then I change my vote so that my favorite entries get 10's , the 9's are comparable etc. Occasionally I move an image vote down because it really is closer in quality to ones I voted lower. But I vote on the ones I think are the best . . . . . . not to improve my own score.

So . . . I like the current system, because for me it allows me to be more accurate in voting the photos in relation to each other.

I "sort" all the challenge entries into two groups the night the challenge closes. I spend the rest of the week going back sporadically and re-examining photos and adjusting scores. I evaluate all the images in the top group and as many as I can in the other group. Putting a time limit on changing your vote would be very counter-productive vis a vis thoughtful voting, IMO.

I do understand that it takes sevral days to get through all of the entries and that some people divide them basically into a good and bad category before fine tuning their choices. I don't want to appear as if I am trying to get the whole system changed. I was just wondering if there was a way to get people to cast their vote and move on to avoid any unfairness that might be unfolding . If it's not feasible or worth the disruption it may cause then by all means, I am still ok with the way it is being done now. But, once in awhile a better way does come along, so sometimes it's good to explore it.
Personally, I noticed while voting for Dairy tnat by the time I reached the end, my anaylsis of each photo had changed somewhat( maybe due to weariness) causing me to go back and move some votes up or down a point to make my choices more consistent. After doing this, the best I could, I left it alone and never went back to it. I didn't have time to spend days and days going over it, but I felt I may have been unintentionally random and possibly not as fair as I would like, so I decided to explore a personal new way of voting. Hopefully my little experiment will make my own voting more consistent and less tedious for me. I will share my system for anybody interested after I try it out some more. Again, I am not trying to push anyone into doing it my way, just always looking for improvements and efficiency ( leftover habits from my former engineering job, I guess ) I really enjoy voting and I feel like I am a winner too when I give someone a high score and they win or come in high in the ranking. It also helps me to become a better observer to detail when taking my own photos.

It ain't broke. Why Fix it?

Seriously...malice here has no place and if anything, little effect. It's a bit dillusional to think that one person's vote can matter MUCH to an image's average score, given that there are usually hundreds of votes per image per challenge. The herd will be the herd, and the herd's voice will be loudest.

A lot of people vote in one pass and over the week, start changing their votes if they missed something from when they initially saw it. Changing votes to get your higher doesn't really play much in the whole scheme of things because "your" vote is simply just 1 out of a possible 300+ votes. If you downgrade an image worth 7 by scoring it a 1, you're still outnumbered by the vast majority of DPC votes :)
