I am a beginner with all thess digital doo-dahs, and my only previous experience in photography was for college using a few cheap 35mm SLRs. I'm fairly au fait with how film speed works, and still remember most of what I learnt (even if it has been a while). And got some nice effects when extra grainy pictures were desired by pushing fooling the camera to exposing for say 800 when a 400 is loaded.

To my question anyway. Is there any correlation between the film speed I was previously familiar with, and the ISO setting on the digital camera I am trying to figure out? And can I achieve similar effects of either sharp/grainy images. Something tells me my current one lacks the versatility to do any of this and I'll need to invest a lot more in the camera I'm using, but still advice is welcome in preparation for the day when I have the right camera.
