I'm just curious Shadow...what brought about this idea of a challenge for everyone to shoot just one specific object? I'm not saying it's a bad idea, or a good idea. I'm just wondering if your idea came about because of the current "Home Sweet Home" challenge. I've been finding that many people with entries in this challenge are stretching the theme to the point where their photos have very little to do with their home life, but somehow they are relating it to the challenge. For example, I've seen many shots that I would classify more as landscapes or even abstracts, but to me, these pictures just don't say home sweet home. Because of that, I've been giving lower scores than I normally do. |

Olyuzi, it's not a particular challenge that sparked this idea. I've only join the DPC for a few short months and it's already clear to me that some subjects seem to appear in every challenge, or sometimes, a photographer interprets a given challenge as something far from what other members may interprets it. I generally have no problem with this, but for once, maybe, it would be nice if everyone actually shoots the same subject and see how everyone fares. Like the egg challenge, there are still some that did not photograph a real egg. I mean, maybe egg-plant (just an example ok). This is fine, but like I said, maybe it'd be nice if everyone tries to shoot the exact same subject and try to get creative from that point.
By the way, it's everyone's freedom to score a low 1 or 2 for photos that they personally do not meet the challenge. |

Bod, sorry about that. If you feel I missed something please PM me, and I'll be more than happy to reconsider my vote. Amazingly I've only had four people (excluding you) respond to my comments. Not too many death threats yet :)
ScottK, thanks for the post. You very effectively summarised what I was trying to convey.

Martus, I like your idea about giving a score that we personally feel appropriate for the photo, and then leave a comment for the submitter to react/defend. This sounds like fair. I'm going to follow this pattern from now onwards and see if it's good. Lets just hope the submitters are sporting enough and wont send us death threats :p |

Why should your DQ request and the opinion of a majority of a very small group trump the opinions of all those other voters? |
This doesn't necessarily mean the 100-odd voters who don't request DQ believe the photo is legal. Maybe I'm not the only one here who doesn't want to cause others the embarassment of disqualification. |
But if you think a photo is illegal and don't request a DQ, you do a disservice to all the other entrants by making them compete with something which may violate the rules. There should be no embarrasment about being DQ'd -- "no one" else will know, and the DQ request remains anonymous as well. |
