I have the old age sight...I mean I have to hold the asprin bottle at arms length to read it! How will this affect my "macro" shooting. I use the traditional "rock back and forth" method to focus. I've noticed that many of my macros look great through the lens but sometimes are very "out of focus" on the screen and/or in print form.

Should I only use the autofocus and listen for the focus "beep" from my D70? ...Or ...should I try to compensate by estimating my focus even if it looks out of focus at the time of the shot?

Any help???

You should be able to compensate using the diopter adjustment on your viewfinder. Adjust it until the viewscreen is in sharp focus without having to "force" your eye to focus on it. You should be able to manually focus then without a problem.
This applies if you are either nearsighted or farsighted, but will not correct astigmatism. If you have significant astigmatism, you're better off wearing corrective lenses (glasses or contacts) while shooting.

I assume that your camera, like mine, has a dioptric adjustment, which will then let you look through your viewfinder just like a "normal" (*g*)person.

Edited to say: one of these days I'll manage to get MY answer in first LOL

yeah on the D70 its an up down scroll bar next to the viewfinder(on the right). auto focus the camera on something and find the focus on the finder with the scroll bar.

edit- you can also focus on the cross hairs but it might be a little harder to see.

Thanks...I'll try that and report the results!
