Well, that is what we are doing here in Lafayette, taking their word.
But you have to be prepared, all the yard debris put away, wood for windows ready to go up if needed, lots of water, propane, food and batteries. I hope electricty does not go out for extended period of time. It is VERY Very hot here.

I am in New Orleans and plan on staying. My wife works in a hospital and I just can't leave without her. I will try to take some pictures, but I probably won't post them until after the storm passes (and power restored if need be). I am reminded of the old Bill Cosby bit when he talked about Noah. The recurring joke was the question, "How long can you tread water?"

I think I can tread water for just long enough.

Well, alot has changed since I first posted. I am now safely settled in Atlanta. It took us about 8 hours (normally takes me 7 hours). Traffic lightened up once I was past Montgomery, AL.

I did leave my wife in New Orleans. She is considered essential personnel and must stay. Please say a prayer for her and the others who must stay to take care of those who cannot leave.

Sorry I won't be able to post any pictures. But I am sure I will get some aftermath shots.

I will pray for her. I have a brother-in-law that had to stay in Gretna, as he is also considered essential personnel.

Take whoever's word you want, but those are the same guys who do are everyday weather predictions, and they mess up quite often.

Besides there may be other reasons to tilt the path in that diection. The No, Lake Ponchatrain area has several million inhabitants who will get hit hard even if the storm does stay on it's current track and doesn't make a sharp turn to the north. They (and rightly so) don't want the people in that area to get a fasle sence of relief just because the eye might not pass directly over them.

If the storm stays on the current course the most likely place for landfall will be be west of Houma in the Morgan City area. Houma has already been evacuated as it should be(you'd know what I am talking about if you have ever been there). I'm not sure about Morgan City, but it probably has also.

One thing to remember is that NO is to the east of Morgan City and will get the brunt of the rain and the storm surge even if it doesn't get the worst of the wind.

The strike probablities are narrowing. If the guys flying planes through this thing and poring over data from buoys and billion-dollar satellites say it's going to hit NO, I'll take their word for it.

I just talked to my nieghbor. He just got off the phone with his family in Lafayette. He said all of the filling stations are out of gas and that I-10 looks like a parking lot with all the traffic heading west.

Well get you & your folks to safe ground will ya?
And forget about that Pecan tree in your back yard - if it's gonna wipe out the house, make sure you are a hundred (or more) miles away!

The second band is just starting to come in here. The winds are still not bad, but it has started a light rain.

We are expecting sustained hurricane force winds here up to about 80mph by tommorow afternoon if the storm doesn't radically change course. It might be worse. the worst I have ever been through was 130 - 140 mph sustained winds. It was a little spooky.

Look at the size of the eye on this thing.

I've been following this all day long, mostly on Fox news..
It is a BEAST.
I personally would not trust the Superdome againt 165mph winds, but thats the only choice alot of those people had.
Speaking of the eye, it is so large they claim that it will bring "3 Hours" of complete calm, before the backside of the storm hits again, that is just CraZy..

Well the call just came. The refugees should start trickling in within the next hour or so. The house I live in was built in the 20s, so it's strong and fairly roomy. Every hurricane friends show from somewhere . As long as they bring beer they are fine. I have two cases in the fridge, but that will go in an hour if nobody else brings thier own.

Time to bust out the guitars and play a little music.

I was thinking the same thing. Sounds like kenskids is in a bad place, too. I was reading the following link: //www.breitbart.com/news/2005/08/28/D8C97J1G0.html

and thinking that I may be homeless tomorrow!

Kenskids made it to high ground. grigrigirl's lat post said she was shutting down and out the door.

You all may not hear any more from some us for a few days to a few weeks because of inevitable utility outages. I hope you all won't worry too much. I'll post from here just as soon as evrything gets back up. Hopefully tommorow night.

Just seen satellite images of Katrina on the news web site here! That's a pretty serious looking storm! I hope all will be safe and well!

Just so it is clear - the me sign is nsbca7, not me. But I agree, all keep safe.
