In the most recent issue of Sky and Telescope magazine (which I got a few days ago), there is another in a series of articles over the past few years where authors take a stab at dating or regionalizing a photo or painting that depicts a recognizable astronomical event. This time its Adams' famous "Autumn Moon" photo of the moon rising in Yosemite Nat'l Park:
(Bad reproduction, but it's the best I can find online)
It's a great read but it's a bit deep into astronomical minutia for the average reader. Just for fun, I check Sky&Tel's website to see if they had an online version. They do (in a manner of speaking - it's actually a press release), though the images are not reproduced, probably for copyright reasons. See it here.

Another intersting thing about the Autmn Moon shot, is that on September 15th this year, at around 6:20-6:22 in the evening, you can shoot exactly the smae shot - clouds allowing, of course. it'd be great for any of you Americans to get out there and show us the result ...

Probably will be several hundred photographers trying to do the same thing :-) It's been pretty-well publicized....
