I tried to remove the cobwebs in the upper right part of this mailbox (through and under the "S") using PS but couldn't figure out how to do it. Cloning is still not a skill I have mastered, or would you use another method? All comments appreciated.

I like the cobwebs...it is a nice part of the photo...

I can only see a slight line on the "s" which you could use the burn tool to darken over.

I would definitely use the cloning tool. A feathered brush with a radius about the same size as one of the texture dots at the back of the mail box. Search the picture for a source patch with very similar lighting and texture. The dotted texture will come in handy as you can select the clone source (ctrl-click I believe) in the centre of a similar dot and then start painting at the centre of the dot you are replacing.

Do the same thing for the lettering (notice that you have two S's in similar lighting conditions).

Thanks everyone! I'm going to try your suggestions. And you certainly have a point there, doctornick.

Looks beautiful. So how did you do it?

If it is beautiful it is due to you - it is your photo. All I did was clone out everything I saw as a cobweb. Then auto-level adjust to see what it would do and I liked the texture it brought out so left it. Sharpen (I use PhotoImpact10) to a level of 5 and then Unsharp mask with settings of .5, 150, 0. It may be oversharpened a bit but I liked how it brought out all the texture in the faceplate. With the original image it would work differently, I worked with what you posted obviously.

The original was a bit blurry. With all the sunlight on it I thought the sharpening would not be so noticeable since the highlights were already there.

Oh and nice photo by the way. I like it. Cobwebs or not.

Thanks. I left a comment at your gum drops photo. It's a photo I noticed before while browsing the site, but not until now had I really looked at it.

Nice shot, and nice work by the alien. I was gonna take a crack at it, but I can't improve on his clone work so kudos to him :-) The processing in general is quite good. I tried some contrast masking but ended up with a version indistinguishable from the original, practically. It's too bad the vertical bar right is so totally blown out, but it's not that big a deal, being as how it's metal and it's nicely contained anyway.

Thanks bear! From you I regard that highly! It is certainly not the best that can be done. But i tried.

I think it's about as good as can be done from a 640-pixel source image. And if you can make it look that good from 640, you can do it REALLY well from 3000 pixels I'm sure :-)

Well thanks again bear! Remember though, it is his photo, I just messed with it. I wish I had taken it though. Just the kind of image I like. I would be interested in seeing a bear_music rendition if you care to post.

There's no point; it looked exactly like yours. I dumped it to conserve space :-) And yes of course it's her very nice picture; but she asked us how to fix it, so that's the point of the thread, eh?

I suppose...but still would have liked to see more renditions than my own posted. I am surprised that more people didn't post a version. It is a nice photo to work with.

How to remove cobwebs?

Sometimes you may notice cobwebs while making the picture, sometimes not, I have found my self removing them before taking an exposure. This is especially true of flora in the field...... a wipe with a bandana usually does it.

A good way to remove cobwebs.... with a stick.

Sorry, couldn't help it

This is my attempt.
The only way to get rid of the cob webs was to increase the picture to 500% and clone 1 pixel at at time using the natural pixel to the left or right.
No other adjustments done except on small sharpening because of having to save as jpg.

Thanks for the comments. For the record: I'm a he. Hope you won't treat me on more harsh comments now ;-)
And thanks SDW65 for having a go with it. It's very helpful to see what people can do with your photos.
