I believe lenses from the Olympus are quite expensive. I'd go with the best Nikon or Canon you can afford. All of their DSLRs are excellent.

The 4/3 rds system is an excellent system.
Quite new, but designed from the ground up for digital sensors.
The biggest problem you will have is that Olympus only do 2 cheap lenses (Good range though - 28-300 equivalent in 2 lenses), and Sigma only do rubbish 4/3 rds lenses at the moment.
Look for major expansion in the number of lenses over the next 2-3 years.
In reality to finally decide go into a shop and hold as many D-SLRs as you can. Don't limit yourself to Olympus, Canon, Nikon or any other manufacturer - they all make great gear.
Ask if you can take a few test shots outside on your own CF and compare the images at home.
Compare any cameras you like on dpreview.com to see if that adds any information as well.
I hope this helps and look forward to seeing some great images with your new camera once you decide. |

Olympus 4/3 rds is a excellent system... lenses are top notch in every way. High prices for individual lenses is a factor however. The kit lens to start with is probably the best offered from any maker.

No. No. No. Why won't this myth die? Only one lens is overpriced, the 300/2.8, the rest are quite competitive priced. And they make good lenses too:
Originally posted by somebody on dpreview.com:
I have in my hands the July issue of the Practical Photography. It tests 6 zoom lenses at about the same focal lengths and price.
The only zoom that has taken 5 stars for image quality is the zuiko 40-150 f3.5-4.5. The rest has taken:
4 stars the sigma 70-300 apo macro super, the nikon af 70-300 G and the canon 90-300 usm.
3 stars the tamron 70-300 LD macro and the sigma 70-300 DL macro super II.
So the zuiko 40-150 is the tester's choice of the lenses.
We know that the zuiko 50-200 f2.8-3.5 is even better, but indeed the 40-150 f3.5-4.5 is a very good lens, especcially for its price. So, all of you who have the lens, enjoy it.
