Does anyone think that these challenges are silly? I mean...dairy? And of course there were a gazillion photos of cows and glasses of milk. I mean, come on, what did they expect? Now, shoes? They're gonna have to do better than this in my opinion. Anyone agree? |

Not me.....
In my opinion, the challenge lies in the ability to take the very mundance and display it in such a fashion that it becomes a piece of art. There are some truly awesome depictions in the "Dairy" competition, and I expect the same will hold true in "Shoes" and other challenges.
You really should take the time to re-visit the "Duckie" challenge and see how creative some people were.
Just a thought

I thought about Dairy, as I have cats... after glancing through the entries, glad I didn't.
I'm thinking about Shoes, but have 3 or 4 ideas, and am not sure which way I'm going to go with it, I'll probably be indecisive, and not enter anything.
I actually have often shot a challenge a week early. Someday, I'll be taking photo's on the weekend, and something that is appropriate will NOT be that Wednesdays new challenge. :) |

I'm tired of the mundane. The Nude was a descent break from it and the Live Music got me to take interest and vote also, but let us try for the controversial or the bleeding edge for at least a temporary break from all this once or twice in twenty challenges. No more Colors, Fruits, Flowers, Zoos, Wooden or Iron objects, at least till we get a taste of something we can actually bite into.
Who knows, maybe I'll even enter a challenge if the subject challenges me.

I feel that more general, soft value topics would intrigue me much more than tangibles, like 'shoes' or 'fruit', which are like close-quarter fights with very litle space to move around.
How about 'mercy'? Or 'reverence'? Or 'luck'? Y'know, things that trigger emotional archetypes and at the same time give you latitude for creativity. |

I totally agree with you! I would like to see some more challengs that deal with techniques (such as leading lines) instead of mundane, boring subjects. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one in this boat.

I also would like to see more of the technical type challenges. Would tend to be more helpful to people learning about photography and would help others to hone their skills...

Well go down to the local "Challenge Sugestions" forum, open a new topic and ask for one before all the office workers get up in a few hours, go to thier office and ask for a Water Cooler, Notebook or Coffee challenge.

I think the shoes challenge may be interesting.
But what I find more interesting is how (in DPChallenge lottery of challenge suggestions that is picked at random) this topic, Shoes got picked so quick.
It was just suggested on 8/9/05. 15 days after it's suggestion it is announced. What about the others that have been suggested?

Some get skipped. I suggested one once and it was picked a week later. Some have been there for several years.

I think there is a good variety of challenge topics. Once with simple subjects, such as shoes, forces us to think a little more |

Done. I guess I'm entitled to my complaints now, right? :)
