There is very little difference between 6mp and 8mp. Infact the 16.6mp sensor of the EOS-1Ds Mark II is not even twice the resoultion of the D70.

And 90% of those are still using point and shoots.

Your telling me that size does not matter and perhaps for you that may be true. Not everyone is content to print 8x10 images and both Canon and Nikon know this.

16x20 prints for me are on the small side.

Even the medium format digital such as the Hasselbald, mamiya, etc use sensors smaller than their roll film format size. It is because digital sensors can create more resoulution per square milimeter than film. And we are still in a transition time. When the manafacturer catch up, we will have glass comparable to much larger & more expensive glass at a fraction of the size (and possible cost).

As far as this goes, if you care to wait for the transition and for Nikon to fully develop a whole new line of lenses that will take full advantage of the smaller format I have no problem with that. Don't expect me to be as patient. I have what I need now.

1.5x crop on nikkon..
1.6x crop on canon..
theres no real standard.

I refuse to buy EF-S lens, if digital (first they 'should' come up with a standard otherwise sigma and tamron will be pissed, and lens prices of aftermarkets will cost more, much more) goes the way of a small sensor, they arn;t going to immediately make all 35mm lens obselete, and I can change straight over to FF (or film) and not lose any of my lens...

i really don;t see the logic of getting a EF-S/DX unless you have no plans on getting better in the future, even then, seems a bad move to me.

It does seem that Nikon has been "too little, too late" with their offerings the past couple years. I understand that a new model is in the works to be announced in September, the model D200. This new camera supposedly has a 12.4 megapixel imager, decent set of features and a price tag in the neighborhood of $1300. IF all this is true, then Nikon may be back as a stronger contender in the market, but I won't hold my breath!

I won't argue that a FF camera would be convenient to use older glass, but what needs to happen is that manufacturers need to build and design new glass for the DX sized sensor. I wouldn’t put my Super-Angulon 90mm/5.6 on my D70, because it was designed for 4x5 so why put glass designed for 35mm on a digital? My point is that that great glass can be made smaller (cheaper!) for digital.

That was part of the point I was trying to make - that there is a very real market for photographers that either need wider angles or simply prefer to shoot with lenses at the same focal length as they work on film bodies.

If these lenses do not exist, especially in the same level of quality as the standard lens lineup already available, then a full frame camera would appear to be a better solution (for professionals anyway) than making a whole new lens line.

I am sure Nikon understands their target audience far better than I do, but I really have to wonder if there are not at least some Nikon users that would welcome a full frame option. nsbca7 is only one, I just have to think there are others.

Again, my original post is not meant as a Nikon bashing of any sort, I just thought it might be an interesting topic to kick around.

I'd like to see Canon (or Nikon) come out with a DSLR that has the AntiShake technology for in-camera image stabilization that Konica-Minolta has. Won't happen as long as they are selling IS (or VR) lenses.

I'd also like to see the big two come out with DSLRs that incorporate something like the SensorWave anti-dust feature that Olympus has in it's DSLRs.

And I'd like to see the big boys be as agressive in trying to expand Dynamic Range in digital photos as Fuji has been.

And how about some serious fast aperture lenses like Oly's Zuiko 150mm f 2.0 while were are dreaming?

I do agree with you on most of that, but Canon does have some very fast primes. I'd love to see a few more too, but the line-up in that area is much better at the moment for Canon then it is for Oly. Much better.
