Entered only 1 of the last 8 challenges, I enter at least once a week since Nov. 04. Having a hard time getting creative and or motivated to find shots for the challenges. (may not be the exact wording I̢۪m looking for). Been shooting a lot. Not board with this site, I̢۪m on it all the time. Has anybody had this problem, if so how did you get over it?

I am in the same funk that you are in... it just came a lot sooner. I have usually always have an idea pop in my head for a challenge, but for the past 4 I have just drawn a blank. Hopefully I will be able to think of something for the next couple of challenges, although I haven't yet! :/ |

Consentrate on a challenge that fits what you like to shoot or shoot something you like to shoot and try to fit it to the challenge (for fun, not for scores). That's how I get through the many challenges I have little interest in. My scores really show what I'm into and not into, when I chose the right one to enter. Mainly shoot for fun. |

I am yet another such candidate. I have just about attempted 6 challenges. Havent entered a challenge in almost 8-9 months now. Though I do take pictures...
I will hopefully start participating in challenges more often now, that I got a job and dont have to worry about my daily bread...
I would love to hear from more people how they got over this weird disease (at least for DPC)...

I have a similar problem. I find the challenges boring and don't really want to shoot for them. I've come to the conclusion to pick the challenges I want to shoot for and don't worry about having an update button. I ws never one for entering EVERY week and find myself shooting more for ME instead of some website. Photography is supposed to be fun so stop shooting for someone else and shoot for you.
edit: you can always wait for a free study which hasn't happened in a long time but I'm sure will sometime soon.

I funked-out around a month back and have decided to enter less challenges or at least only ones that I like. At one point I was in Independence, Zoo and Textures all at once because I had ideas that I liked and was able to accomplish what I wanted. I learned more with my last 6 entries, 5 of which scored in respectable 6 zones than I had with all my lower numbers put together.
If I don't meet my own criteria, or standards I won't bother entering. The Challenge...trial by fire method, is good to a point but for me, sub 5 scores make me miserable and I don't really benfit(or learn)from those entries...comments and all. I usually know where I screwed up well before the comments start rolling in.
I'm finding it's better to pick my spot, try hard and compete. There's enough inspiration to go around.

I have the same thing, but outside DPC. I just can't get the motivation to shoot something. With a camera... gleh.. |

Me too. I still do my own stuff and I love this site, but for some reason I got lazy with the challenges. |

I have this problem about every few months. I get frustrated with my creativity or I should say lack of. It will come back to you. My photo a day project really helps. |

I'm in a total photographic funk right now.... haven't been motivated or inspired to shoot much of anything lately. I was lucky to get a decent one for rain... but other than that, nothing. I'm hoping it has to do with the hot, muggy weather, as I love to shoot outside. Hopefully when fall comes around and brings it cooler weather, I'll lose this crappy cloud over my head.
Here's to hoping. :-)

It's been a while since I entered but I am feeling better about it because I've finally got a shot I like for D&L. Hope it is well received.

Strictly IMHO: photography is a marathon distance and you should set your own pace. Racing from challenge to challenge, forcing yourself to be creative on command is like running marathon in leaps of sprint. It burns you out before long.
That's why I like to see the photos here, but I don't think I will enter any challenges, unless I accidentally shoot a photo that fits in.
But, as I said, that's my opinion only, without any claims for ultimate truth.

I slowed down quite a bit, however I am on the site daily. What I am doing now is as I take my daily photos, If one of them fits the going challenge I may submit it. The two we have now seem good to me. On the D&L image, I have taken several possibilities. I have lots of idea's for the shoe's and if I get a opportunity I may submit to that challenge. To keep my interest I still add to my portfolio. I will be involved in this site for a long time. It is not just entering the challenges. The treads and additional info really helps me. |

Well. . .I have certainly found myself in the same funk the past few challenges too. but that does make sense what Didymus said about racing from challenge to challenge trying to be creative on command may burn you out. Maybe that's it. I haven't been too happy with the past 2 or 3 challenge entries either.

Sounds like everyone experiences the same thing from time to time. I "forced" a couple of entries and got hammered in the voting so I sat out for about three months. I'm going to pick my spots now. I had an idea right away for the Dairy challenge and it's doing alright. No shame in sitting out for a while. Sometimes you need to clear the cobwebs. |

I am not entering as many challenges, either, mostly because the last few I entered I did really bad. Anyway, what I am doing to help myself is not voting as often. I know this is a bad thing, but it helps me to keep my sanity better. I think too much voting kind of dries up our natural reservoir of creativity. |

No I'm simply saying shoot for you and not some website. If you keep shooting for a challenge then your mind becomes almost infatuated with shooting for challenges and I'm pretty sure that is not what this site was designed for. Why have YOU not entered a challenge recently??? bored???? or burdened??? Regardless, always shoot for yourself and enjoy taking photos. Even if they don't ribbon at least you can learn from the shoot.

Hmmmm.......a big white lens could get me motivated.
No, really scores are not my issue, when I score low its mostly because I shoot for myself and step outside the norm for DPC and usually the comments over come the score. I am very competitive person don̢۪t get me wrong, the goal is to ribbon. I̢۪ve learn so much from this site its unbelievable. After reading some of the feed back, I think I push hard to enter as many challenges I can and I forget my golden rule I teach my baseball/softball kids, I need to do what I preach.
“If you swing for the home run fence every time you’re up, you’re going to fly out, strike out and not be very successful. If swing hard and make solid contact the home run fence will come to you“
Thanks for all that replied, I do have a couple of ideas for the D&L challenge. I’m going to shoot, have fun and let it all come to meâ€Â¦Ã¢€Â¦Ã¢€Â¦Ã¢€Â¦.ace

Joe, I checked your profile. you take good photos! You mentioned losing desire, is it to take part in challenges or taking photos altogether? Look at it this way, dont entry on every challenge. Take it as a past-time instead, this way the challenges will start looking fun again. try it. |

I'm getting bored with the challenges...the voters seem petty to me and lately my photos rarely fit the challenges well enough to earn greater than 5. I've been spending more time uploading the photos that I enjoy taking to deviantART or my personal site and less time at dpchallenge.
I'd say take the kind of photos that you enjoy taking and if they don't fit the challenges, find another site to share them at.

No, Love shooting, had a great time just last week with the Oregon get together, was on vacation prior to that and had a great time shooting in Vegas. It's trying to come up with shots for challenges, that meet the spirit of the challenge and mass appeal. I think the above posts hit it right on the head. Slow down, if the challenge works for me or if I'm trying something new enter and if not pass on it. One thing I know, I enjoy everyone on this site, I'm just a rookie at photography and want to continue learning. I haven't found another site that does that for me.......I'm some what a product of DPC. This thread is a prefect example on why I stay. Thanks for all the advice...... |
