I'm confused as to the aspect ratios. I don't want to create something and then it turns out that it gets cropped differently. Please help. Thanks.

Go here for starters. It has all of the print ratios accepted by DPC prints.
Edit: Is that what you were having trouble with? If not, then just let me know...

The aspect ratio thing is too confusing.

Yes, I believe so. Use the Aspect Ratio chart to see what multiply prints can be made with each size.
1.50:1 Aspect Prints seems to be popular because you can make:
4 x 6
8 x 12
10 x 15
16 x 24
20 x 30

faidoi, in your image, what the purpose of setting a resolution? what does setting it to 1 or 10000 do? |

No reason for resolution at least in this discussion. It was a quick capture for another question in a past thread about resolution that I have reused many times when a DPC prints format question comes up.
The more megapixel your camera has the better quality your prints will look at 300dpi. A lower megapixel camera can only make for a smaller print at 300dpi.
Using 150 dpi will make for a good print in most cases though.

5 x 7 example
750 x 1050 =150 dpi 750/5 =150dpi , 1050/7 = 150dpi minimuum quality of print
1500 x 2100=300dpi 1500/5 =300dpi, 2100/7 = 300dpi highest quality of print |
