I doubt it very much, canon will just slash the price of the 20D, anyway apart from the extra megapixels (which most people don't need) and a couple of extra af-points I can't see much there that is above what the 20D offers. Also the 20D has been about for a while now so fingers crossed we'll hear something soon from canon on the 30D :-)

The D200's 2.5 inch LCD is a significant improvement over the 20D's 1.8 inch screen. This is a feature where Nikon has been ahead of Canon for some time. Now Canon has acknowledged the deficit by going to 2.5 for the N upgrade on the 1D MkII.

The LCD size didn't come into consideration for any of my camera purchases (five an counting). Maybe it's just me having reasonable eyesight, but 1.8" vs. 2.5" is a trivial reason for/against a camera.

I don't know about that???

I thought I took about a MILLION brilliant pictures that looked totally awesome on my small screen only to find out later...when it was too late, that they were blurry trash. No turning back....right?

Maybe you were never confronted with a choice between a 1.8 and a 2.5 when deciding which camera to purchase. To me, the 2.5 was possibly a deciding factor between a 1D MkII and a D2X. Not saying that you are one of them Paul, but that would never come up for the people who are so brand-loyal that they can't consider switching.

For you, that's fair enough that it's important. I only said it hasn't factored in my purchasing.

For people who don't consider the display size important, I'm not implying the D200 has nothing of value. The clever crop-for-speed technology is very cool.

$1300 sounds REALLY low, although cameras a lot cheaper in the US than here in Europe. I order all my stuff from Germany (no customs because of EU) and that already cuts the prizes a LOT. Grr. Hate Finnish tax levels.

First, it the price is firly close to the value talked here... Buy buy 20D... Even if you hace a 300D and want to upgrade... people will think twice.

Even if it come to 1500 bucks it's much camera for the money. I was planning in getting an extra body next year for weddings, and I was planning in geting another D70 because D70s inproves are't worth the money, and with the D70s in the stores the D70 should drop the price a bit. But with the D200 comming at this price... No way I'm going to pass by it. It's like a baby D2X... Please, come to dady....

And here I have been thinking of getting a second body (I would like to carry one wih telephoto and one with wide angle), another D-70 but would ahve loved a D2x. If the price of under 2K is real then this may be it. After looking over the specs for the 5D and the D200 I can't see how Canon will be able to sell theirs at such a lofty price. The only significant difference is the FF sensor but for many of us the crop issue is a good thing. I especially like the fact that you can shoot at 6MP and get a 2x crop for speed and reach.

Anyone read Japanese? Reported pictures of the D200

D200

Available before Christmas!

A 10 megapixel DSLR in the $1300 range is likely in the near term, but Nikon may not be the manufacturer to produce such a camera. Consider the new Sony DSC-R1 (point&shoot camera) that reportedly is 10.3 megapixel and features a 160-3200 ISO with extremely low noise and a 10X zoom, all for $999 msrp.

Now I have more info- Ads will start soon. available in late Sept

What or who is the source of this great news?

JV

Read about the trademark thing online. Got the specs from a chat room on Nikonians. Get the release date and info on ads from my local dealer. The Nikon rep was at the store about 20 min. before me. My dealer said he was really tight lipped with the info though.

He was tight lipped because he didn't know what he was talking about.

and im about to spend everything i've scraped together on a mamiya 7.

ohh man why's this gotta be coming out now?

I don't believe it.

Not at that price I don't. Nikon doesn't really have the power (For now)) to sell something so extreme at that price. It probably won't be under 2000 bucks.

Those blurry pics don't happen all that often with the AF on the camera paul uses, if it's used correctly. Not only don't we have a bigger lcd, we don't have zoom on the LCD either... it can be annoying if you chimp like mad, but usually when you get back, the shots still look good.

The cross type sensors on this D200 look like a good improvement over the 20D... 1 vs 9 more accurate AF points!

what the hell is that?!

i cant find those photos on the actual nikon uk site. not sayin theyre fake but the links are bad. Those flash things would be sweet if theyre not IR, if they were radios senders and they had radioed flash receivers and maybe cheaper than pocket wizards id be stoked!
