Not that I would recommend this to any other photographer out there, but here are a couple of photos of a moose that I saw this last weekend. I followed him up the mountain for a half mile, and finally came within 10 feet of him, taking photos the whole time. I've heard all the horror stories about moose, but every now and then you just have to take a chance I guess. What do you think?

Your very lucky. An angry moose is not anything to take lightly.

i wouldn't say lucky, I would say slightly crazy with a dash of courage. but high risk/high reward is still ultimately subjective.

Scott - you crazy person!...but I like the photos (is that the death stare I see in his eyes!?)

Just be glad you didn't try to do that during rutting season. Then you would have gotten a bunch of really blurry ultra-closeups of moose nostrils, hooves and antlers. IS couldn't even save the pictures in a situation like that :P

I think it was Mike. I would rather have more distance with a tele lens, but all I have right now is the 70mm!

You took a photo of a moose at 70mm!

Wow...neat but scary...

Well, we have to work with what we have, right? Besides, every one needs an adrenaline rush every now and then.

Just don't be like that guy at Yellowstone. Walks up to a bull elk in rut. Takes flash photo with point and shoot. Turns around to walk away. WHAM! Gorged in the back!

I was afraid to click on this thread. I thought it might be a Nude III outtake thread.

Great shots Scott! You're a guy after my own heart. I would have followed that moose too - for miles if necessary. Ya only live once!

That's the philosophy I live by. Life's too short to be too careful I guess.

I like the moose. How did you get so close? Is he "tame"?

LOL - you don't tame a Moose - he tames you. :-)

This was by no means a "tame" moose. He lives up Little Cottonwood Canyon, near Salt Lake City. I spoke with a lady photographer that was there. She said that this guy, and one other, can always be found in that area. She said that last year when she was taking some photographs of one of them, they turned and chased her for 50 yards or so before losing interest.
