The first one I had already posted here before but there were problems with people being able to view it. I liked the selective desaturation in the first one, but wanted to try something different in the 2nd, so I desaturated the mushroom and left everything else (that took quite a while since there are a few things right in front of the base of the mushroom as you can see). I'll be thankful for any comments =]

Why is it so difficult to get a few opinions of my digital photos on a digital photography forum? If I changed the topic to "Will trade comments! 2 for 1 today only!" would that help? I *do* leave comments for other people I just don't advertise it. =\ |

I like your fungi shooting style, especially the first one. The light on the cap has great color and the darkness of the stem brings out its structure, but doesn't distract from the top. One of the best mushroom pics I've seen. |

Thank you aplomb76. I know it's kind of a wierd subject to be shooting but I only shoot things I can find in the public park a block from my appartment. And I'm still a newbie when it comes to photography so I really appreciate your comment =] |

So, you want a comment? From me? That's odd. Anyway here it goes. Buy a Spyder. Your digital online presentations will improve 100% with the purchase, I promise. |

That's what I had in mind when looking for sumething to shoot for the time capsule challenge!
A mushroom of some sort, and have it title 1945 - hiroshyma and nagasaki!
but dang, it was rainny outside, and I couldn't find the type of mushroom I wanted, only those "champignon" edible ones! |

scuds, I was lucky to find that bright orange mushroom, those damn things only look cool for about 12 hours. But, that would have been a cool idea for the time capsule challenge. I was going to go to Fort Edmonton Park if I was able to enter that challenge, it's like a living time capsule.
Oh, nsbca7, thank you for your [sarcasm]wonderfully insightful[/sarcasm] comment. |

The part about the Sypder was dead on serious. You need one. Your images appear too dark and I know you would not have posted them the way they are had they appeared to you the way they do to us.

nsbca7, the first one was supposed to appear dark aside from the bright orange head. Granted, the dark areas need more detail, but that was kinda the idea. The 2nd one is a bit trickier.. it was way over exposed but I was mad because it was the only decent shot I got on my walk, so I tried to make the most of it with photoshop. Tons of spot editing in that one. |

I know what your talking about, but I don't think color calibration is the issue. The photo is appealing to me as is.

Ok I'm gonna try to solve this
This image looks, on my monitor, how it should (other than not being that good of a shot) Does it appear dark to you nsbca7?

Yes. The detail on the flower buds and on the insect's body both appear too dark. Overall the image appears dark.
BTW, I'm veiwing this on a ACD that has been hardware calibrated. |

That's odd. Because there's another pic in that series of shots. The one I posted, the shutter speed was 1/250. There is another from a slightly different angle at 1/200 which is overexposed. The only effect applied to either was Auto Contrast in photoshop. Maybe it's just that I have a 3.2 MP point and shoot digital camera which doesn't take that great of shots most of the time? |

I'm afraid that hasn't much to do with it. Before I calibrated my monitor my shots coming from both the 1Ds and the 300D that I used to own looked dark on the internet from other peoples monitors.
It's how you view the image before you post it that matters. |

Well, I'm at a loss. Either over exposed or 50 ms faster and it's too dark. My camera goes from 200 to 250, there's no in between. =/ |

I'll say it again, don't worry about the camera. Ajust the monitor. |
