I just wanted some opinions on my photos. The only people I've gotten an opinion from are friends and family who know nothing of photography and just think my pictures would be nice to hang on their walls. No need to be too mean about it, I'm limited by my camera and limited knowledge of photography (taught myself everything I know), but if you see some obvious faults please let me know =]

I made up a cheap free website in about 10 minutes, so my pictures are limited to a smaller size, the website is //atropos10.tripod.com/bphotos . Thanks

I would advise you to get a pop-up free site. It seriously drives me nuts to get four pop-ups at the same time. I registered my domain name at www.freeservers.com. You can still get a free site there, just have a banner ad at the top. Or, you can pay $1.99 per month to have that ad removed. If you are thinking many people will come to it, it is definitely worth it!

I think your photos show real potential. They aren't your everyday snapshots, looks like you're putting thought into them and that is very good. Remember you are only limited by your imagination and it appears that you do have that. The fact that your family or friends think your photos would be good on their walls is a big complement. Do you know how many photos get shoved into drawers never to be seen again? If they would hang them up, others will want to. I think you will do fine, all you need is what alot of us need, and that's experience. So hang in there.
P.S. If you want a real nice cheap website try www.smugmug.com they have a 7 day free trial and the basic service is $29.95 a year. If you decide to join put my email address vcbowen@bellsouth.net in the appropriate field and you will get $5.00 off. That's how I got my site recently from talking to members here. check out this thread //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=254995
Oh, and by the way, I didn't get the popups from your site (using Netscape), Smugmug hates pop ups, so you won't have that problem there.

Thank you pixieland for your input, I'll keep on trying. It's difficult for me since I have no equipment but my point and shoot digital camera, not even a tripod at this point in time, and I have a family that keeps me fairly busy most of the time. But it's good to know that my pictures aren't garbage =]

And thank you m--E for the website info, but that wasn't what I was looking for, I was just in a hurry to get my photos online for other people to see.

And you should consider getting free pop-up blocking software...It's really quite nice.

Ok, I'm gonna try this again minus the psychosis inducing popups.

Here are links to a few of my pictures, if anyone wants to check them out and tell me what they think please do.

Some nice ones there, the one of the spider was my fav. There's a bit too much blur applied in 'Ominous Forest' for my taste.

Just curious, how do you feel you're limited by your camera? - The Powershot S1 is a nice piece of kit, and it gives you full control over aperture/focus/shutter speed.

My coolpix is fairly outdated now*, but I've never felt it limits me (in fact, I've become very familiar with just about every menu and option on offer!). Best accessory I purchased was a tripod. I'd recommend that, especially for some of the low-light shots you've been trying.

*Damn, if only I could think of a good excuse to splurge out on the Nikon D50... Hurry up and break coolpix! - I didn't expect you to last this many years!!!

I mostly feel limited because when I try some harder shots it's always grainy, which isn't acceptable by dpchallenge standards. Also, my lcd screen is fairly small so focusing is a real pain. I cant see enough detail on the screen to see if the picture is going to be properly focused, which limits me with moving subjects because I dont have time to try focus bracketing. Also, the autofocus isn't the greatest, it doesn't work in low light conditions at all and has a hard time at the telephoto end most of the time.

I forgot to mention though, I love my camera. It's *capable* of some awesome crystal clear shots, it just takes work. I've had a hard time getting them myself but I've gotten a few.
