I went out after a rain storm tonight and took a few pictures. Just would like some opinions on this pic. I did brighten the sky quite a bit. Would love any comments and help to make my photos better.

Sky looks to "painted" .....

What does the original look like?

That image has lot's of potential. Great scenery. However, it looks artificial or overprocessed, and the details are missing. I'm also seeing some artifacts. The proportions seem a bit off. Perhaps a little more ground and a little less sky? If you'd like to send me the original, I'd love to play with it.

I tried I just can't quite get the barn right. Can you go back and reshoot?

My try

A quick edit.

I just tried a quick edit and ended up with a great deal of digital shadow around the barn. Did you compensate your exposure by minus a stop or two? The really dark foreground makes me think you were trying to catch a well exposed sky, but it compromised the barn. If you have the ability to extract a portion of your image and separate it, you might be able to adjust the foreground to lighten it up without overexposing your sky.

OK, maybe someone can help me out with this. What is the process of layering two exposures and combining the best of both?

I seems like this image would benefit from metering on the subject to bring out detail, in the barn etc. However, the sky might then be washed out. I've been wanting to try this, and can't remember how to go about it.

Here is my try. I hope I can post successfully. I seem to have a lot of trouble with that.

Yes I did. I'm not really happy with the results, but don't want to spend too long on it.

Maybe run it thorough one more time and it is perfect.

Wow...thanks for the help. the redone photos look better than mine. I just have to keep trying

This was a tough one.
Partially due to the image compression and artifacts, and lack of contrast, I "played" with it a bit more than normal.
Many changes in a lyer, erasing the changes back out of upper portion or vice-versa, depending on where I was going.
Removing the halo around the barn & tress done at 1600% zoom, cloning with a 1 pixel brush at 50% opacity.

eeek - soft & saturation crazyness:
