Hey there.
In about 40 minutes there are fireworks beginning here in ReykjavÃÂk and I have a couple of questions. First I must say I am a couple of kilometers away.
1) What lens should I use? I have the kit lens (18-55mm f/3.5-4.5), Canon 50mm f/1.8 and Canon 70-200mm L f/2.8.
2) Which settings should I use?
Thanks in advance. |

Canon 70-200mm L f/2.8. that one, and use automatic.. it usually does well also use a tripod and if you have it a remote

1) Take them all, try to judge what area will be covered and what looks the best artistically. Usually reflections on for example water enhance the photo.
2) Try to get exposures of about 4 to 15 seconds. Not too short, for fun just count how long the trails of some fireworks last. That's how long your shutter should be during the explosion of the fireworks. But as you cannot judge when the burts will come, use an even longer exposure. Keep the ISO at 100.
3) tripod and 2 second selftimer! Mirror lock-up?

Or this gallery where camera movement and zooming make for a more abstract image (all handheld).

That looks like underwater photography of some kind of jellyfish. Very interesting, great idea!

tripod is a must have.

Don't go too long on exposure. If you get too many bursts in one frame you get a shot that looks muddied. After last 4th of July, I recomend shooting in jpeg instead of raw unless you have very fast media. I missed spectacular bursts of styles I've never seen before because the camera was stuck writing. What's the burst of the Rebel XT? It's more than 4 right?
