This has probably been brought up a 100 times before, but I just got tickets to a concert @ Joe Lewis (detroit), pretty big arena..
Can I bring my camera (Rebel w/lenses)?
If not can I safely bring my sony F717-- I know I should call or look at their website, but I'm lazy..

What does your ticket stub say?

Exactly. The venue may allow you to bring a camera, but the event may not. |

My "friend" is getting them, I have used this "friend" before for tickets, but I don't have them in person, ya know.. |

i have found that if you don't take in a ton of lenses, or long looking lenses (people think long lenses always zoom further), you can get in with an slr. i haven't been able to get into places with an L tele lens at all. probably the white paint.
i haven't had experiences with concerts. only sporting events. so concerts might be another whole issue. |

Most likely you would be able to bring your 300D and whatever lens as longs as you don't block the view of others that paid to get into the concert. Common sense and all that. |

From the Joe Lewis Arena (Olympia Entertainment - Fox Theatre Venue Policies & Guest Relations) web site:
CAMERAS with lenses under 54MM are allowed into Joe Louis Arena on game and event days. NO video recorders or flash photography is allowed. Cameras with detachable lenses that extend over 54MM are prohibited. |

I'll be better off taking my sony then, no detachable lenses, etc.. I'm lower level but still in the stands

Hey, take the Rebel, just stick your 70-200mm f/4.0L down your pants. They'll just think you're excited to be seeing Kenny. |

This sort of thing is the main reason to own a 70-300 DO IS. It's so small that nobody pays any attention to it. I'm holding off on owning one until I get more information on the Panasonic FZ30, though.
Depending on how thoroughly they're searching people, a Scott-E-Vest might also take care of the problem -- the pockets on those things are large enough to hold even a large lens without much of a bulge. |

Again, check the event policies. Even though the venue typically allows cameras, the event may prohibit them.
