Does anyone know of a maker of a focussing rail for use in macro work?
I knoe of the kirk one, but they are £200 which is a little beyond my budget at the moment.

Adorama has a house brand, but it looks cheap. Pentax makes one & Novoflex makes one (really expensive). The best on the market is by Really Right Stuff, but it is even more expensive than the kirk.

The pentax & novoflex has been made for years so you occasionally see them on ebay.

Also if you plan to eventually go with the kirk or RRS (arca swiss) you can start with the MPR-CL which allows you to shift your whole rig back and forth just not as smoothly as the focusing rail. It also is great for panos.

The single direction adjustment rails are the cheapest. I have one of those (I think it's Manfrotto) and it was only ~$150 CDN. Once you get into the bi-directional version you're talking quite a few bucks.
