I got my first Dslr few weeks ago. Last week I noticed black spots in viewfinder.
After removing the lense, and use of a blower I got rid of most spots...
Still there's one that won't go away. I figured it must be inside the focusing screen???

Here is few question for you (whom knows better).

1. Is dirt inside the focusing screen harmful?
2. Does it affect in camera functions?
3. Best way to remove it?
4. What equipment and cleaning methods do you use to keep your camera clean?

Pardon my English... It's not very fluent

Sorry to hear about the dirt on the focus screen. I've three now.

1. Is dirt inside the focusing screen harmful?
No, I don't think so, it does not interfere with the image. Dirt on the sensor may cause artifacts to appear on your image.

2. Does it affect in camera functions?
I don't think so.

3. Best way to remove it?
Have you tried getting a large bulb blower and blowing the screen and the mirror? I've tried that, tried brushing it off with a lens brush, using a lens cleaner solutions and cloth, Q-tips, and small dust removing probes that use static to attract the dust. All without success. Now I just have learned to live with it. If you really want to, you can send it to Nikon for service/cleaning, but they may charge you a fee.

4. What equipment and cleaning methods do you use to keep your camera clean?
After shooting, I use a cloth to wipe down the lens barrel and the camera body. Then I look at the sensor and the lens. If there are any dust, I blow it out with my bulb, if that doesn't work, then I use a lens brush, if that doesn't work, then I use a lens cloth and lens cleaning solution. After shooting, I make it a point to use the blower on the sensor to remove any dust while holding the camera with the sensor facing toward the ground.
There is also a "sensor brush" that has static charge on the bristles that is supposse to attract dust. I just saw that in Popular Photography. Maybe you could try brushing the focus screen with it.

Good luck
