Yes I'll agree that the D70s is just as good as the XT in almost every way, and possibly better in some. Either one is super solid. Pretty much can't go wrong with anything new anymore.

I bought my 300D very slightly used. My intention was as a temporary stop gap until the "30D" comes out. While its plastic body doesn't give you that "it will last for years" feeling and it has some limitations such as no mirror lockup and no metering choice (some of which can be firmware hacked) - for day to day use it's been very satisfying.

I did already have lenses from my Canon film SLR, and the kit lens really isn't too good, but all in all if you want to ease into the whole DSLR scene, it's an economical starting point.
