And it would be interesting to know why, too.

As for myself, I'm completely enchanted by the photos of André Kertesz, especially 'Chez Mondrian' with its perfect simplicity.
Oh, and Michael Kenna.
There's no one quite like him. Pure form, light and dark. Awesome.
(How can he spot all those places?) |

well, I will have to go old school on you. Cunningham is by far my fav. She not only was a very unique photog but she lived a very unique life in general. She was married but lived across the united states from her husband most of her life so she could concentrait on her artwork. She did everything, she drew she painted, and of course she was a photographer.
sorry you prolly didn't want to know that much about her...
O keef (if that is how you spell that name) is also one of my favorits. I won't go into a long story aboutr her though :)

Ansel Adams was technically as perfect as they come, but emotionally ... he seems a bit biblical to me. Majestic and all that, but somehow short on human warmth. |

I don't know, they're pretty moving to me - the sense of scale, the tones, the sharpness. |

One of my favorites is W. Eugene Smith small format pioneer & photojournalist. I think required viewing for any photographer - you can find him in LIFE Magazine issues between about 1940-1970, and also lots of links. I had the opportunity to listen to one of his university series lectures as a student - of course he was encouraging and upbeat, he spoke a little about technique and alot about the subjects he had the opportunity to work with. a link that works.....

I learned a lot about phtography before I got a camera, while helping Lonny Shavelson prepare his first two books. Evocative portraiture and photojournalism on real-world and serious topics, not just the pretty and popular. In his "spare time" he's a pretty good ER physician too ... |

Right now:
Rodney Smith
He has some excellent photos, most of which are very surrealistic. I highly suggest you check out his amazing work.
