I have been thinking about getting something along the lines of a Colorvision Spyder2 to be able to accurately calibrate my monitor(s).
I am completely a hobyist, so don't really know that I need the high end models.
The main question I have is in regards to setting the brightness/contrast of my monitor. Will one of these help accurately set that, or are they specifically for color calibration? To me, accurately setting the brightness/contrast is as important as the color reproduction.
Does anyone have any experience or suggestions on brands/models?
Thanks much! |

I have the older version of the spyder and it works great. I think you are like me where you want your monitor calibrated good enough but not perfect.
you still have to manually adjust the brightness and contrast, but the program walks you through it.
I think the most current (lowest cost) spyder will be fine for your needs.

Thanks, James.
Is the procedure similar to all the websites out there were you adjust so you can see all the boxes, or the hashed lines match up with the solid border?
Everytime I go to one of those sites and start messing around with the settings, I just feel like I'm screwing things up worst than they already are.
Anyone else care to weigh in on options?

I agree with James that the entry-level product should be fine for you. The Colorvision unit is well thought of, and will suit your needs. If you're not confident that you can get the monitor pretty close using software only, then it's a great investment.
