A friend is getting ready to purchase one, and I wanted to know if they had the noisy ISO issue resolved with the newest replacement? |

As far as I can tell the noise levels will probably be about the same as their other cameras. Noise is certainly an issue with my FZ5. But I really think the only way you're going to avoid noise is with an SLR. I just can't quite convince myself (yet) that I want the inconvenience of carrying such a large camera and having to change lenses. Not to mention dust problems, and of course the cost.
On the whole the FZ30 sounds pretty impressive, though I don't think there are any proper reviews yet.

I dont find hauling around my Rebel to be any hassle at all. I dont even mind changing lenses as amazing as that sounds, I quite often just take a 75-300 lense with me most places and use that for my all purpose lense. The tamron zooms are very light also.
I appreciate the comments, atleast it does seem that the noise will still be an issue, does anyone know how the 8mp is going on with those? any pixel distortion?

The sensor size on the FZ30 is the same size as on my camera (the 1/1.8" size (7.2mm x 5.4mm)), but with 3 million extra pixels. I know that my camera has a fair amount of noise even at low levels (especially on the Blue channel), and I would suspect that fitting that many additional pixels in such a small area would cause a significant amount of noise. But, technology is always improving, so maybe Panasonic has mitigated the noise problem...hopefully they have.
