I recently calibrated my monitor, and I think my rain submission is suffering. I haven't gotten any "too dark" comments, but I browse the site when I'm at work, and the background looks really dark on that monitor, and the detail doesn't show. I am currently below a 5, and I thought it would do better. Has anyone else ever experienced this ... and what should I do so this doesn't happen again? - since we can't make everyone calibrate their monitor.

PS ... I'm not putting my monitor back, as I was able to see pics that I thought were too dark before. I know it is at the correct setting. I never knew what I was missing! :)

Here's a couple of threads where monitor calibration was discussed.

Can your monitor see this?

Another example of monitor variance?
