Took this to show people what a 28-75/2.8 Tamron DI Macro can do for volleyball without a flash. The lighting in this gym was good enough to shoot at 3.5, but that was not quite fast enough. I also "Neat Imaged" it too. The school is considering using it on their Senior Brochure, since this young lady is a senior. Let's talk about it. What do you think?

It's a good shot but in all good conscience I couldn't not comment about the NI. It looks like I'm viewing the shot through a tupper ware container. IE fake and plastic-y. (yes..it's a word).

Agreed, too much NI if you ask me. All the faces in the stands are smudged.

The only thing the graphic designer wants to see is the player and the school name. From a NI standpoint it is too much on the crowd, but from an advertising background it will get the point across.

just echo-ing what others has said about the neat image - it has been applied like too thick 80's makeup. I think you should try reappying the neat image selecting a different part of the image to build the profile from, and if that doesnt work then decrease the amount of the effect. I have taken lots of shot at iso 400 with the 28-75 on my digital rebel and they should not be that noisy especially if you are downsizing.

The photo was not noisy guys. We did this for a look and feel only. I will post the original tomorrow. Good Night

What if you were to selectively apply neatimage to the player only? I think it would do well to set the subject apart from the rest of the scene.

If you were trying to blur the background then can I suggest a guassian blur instead, if you were trying to bring out the player more can I suggest a unsharp mask instead... if you were going for both then can i suggest using a layer mask and doing a guassian blur on the background+ usm on the player.

Original

New NI

Now what do you think?

This is what the original looked like before we cropped it.

I can't really see a difference in these last two you posted. They are much better than the original though. I didn't care for the heavy NI.
