Need more detail then that.

What type of anti trust legislation do we need. We already have laws on that (note the microsoft stuff a few years ago). We need more? Is Walmart a monopoly? Need specifics.

Workers have protection with EEO, OSHA, child labor laws, Family leave... what more do we need? Should we raise minimum wage to $20/hour so everyone can be happy? Mandatory medical benefits?

There are no laws prohibiting unions from forming and striking if they chose. If the majority of people in a workplace agree that a union should be formed, one gets formed. What more do they need?

Visas and Tariffs, better known as taxes, is rarely a good solution. They do nothing but raise the prices of goods and encourage inflation. Basically it's a form of price fixing.

Thousands apply for 400 jobs at Oakland's first Wal-Mart

Only problem is the "New" Wal Mart will put on the street 400 other workers in the smaller bussineses in the town ( will put them out of bussines).

And they create another 800 jobs by the additional retail outlets that build next to WalMart.

Frankly, when I hear how "Walmart" puts the small mom and pops out of busines I wonder where any of this crap comes from. I'm 29 yrs old. And most mom and pop shops were put out of business before I was born. (Excepting maybe the occasional gas station or or ice cream shop which I doubt Walmart's appearance will make too much difference with.)

Whenever a Walmart, Home Depot, etc is built it is usually only a couple of years till a dozen or more additional shops pop-up around it and form a commercial district. Then, since there's a bit of commercial area you start getting your conglomeration of fast food restaurants. Then you get a TGI Friday's/Ruby Tuesday's/Teddy Thursday's or what not. In truth, you wind up with a lot more jobs then were lost.

The problem, is the kind of jobs created. Retail jobs are $6-$11/hr jobs as opposed to the $9-$22/hr manufacturing jobs. And that's the problem when you move from a producer state to a consumer state...
