1. I started with a white foam board in office supply section at the local Walmart. The one I got was approximately 24inches wide and about twice as long. Cost under $2.00. This can be used as is (preferably on the shiny side ) to relect some light back into your subjects face, lessening the shadows. Or you can go to Step two for a double sided reflector to get more out of it.
2. I cut 2 pieces of 18" wide aluminum foil lengthwise about 3 inches longer than the long side of the board. Since my board was wider than my foil, I had to overlap it off center. Crinkle the foil somewhat and cover the duller side of the foam board with it. Folding all the edges over neatly and fairly evenly all around.
3.Tape all the sides down using clear Duct tape from hardware department. Also taped down center overlapped foil to keep it from tearing easily.
4. You can test it by standing near a window (daylight of course) and looking in a mirror as you turn your head to cause shadow on one side of your face. Lift the reflector up and down slowly to see the difference in the amount of light the shadow side receives.
Please tell me if this is a help to you.
Edit-OOPS, I meant Reflector, hopefully DPC management will have mercy on me and fix by typo--So embarassed!

LOL, I guess it's my hillbilly version of a reflector. Sorry for the typo. |
