Today was my daughter's first stage performance, a dance. I recorded it with the movie mode in my camera Canon S1 IS. However, I accidently erased it. Is there a way to recover it. (I have not formatted the card yet). Please help.

There are lots of recovery programs advertised on the net though I don't know if it makes a difference whether the files are regular stills files or video clips.

Hopefully another member can recommend one of these utilities from actual experience?

That data is not gone...take heart!

Wouldn't it matter how it was "erased"? If the card has been rewritten to won't that impact the ability to recover data?

What type of card were you using?

The larger capacity (1 gig and up) cards from SanDisk ship with a small cd that has a recovery program on it. Maybe you can find a website where it can be downloaded. Try the SanDisk site perhaps.

You should be able to recover the data. Check out the manufacturer of your memory card and visit their website. They should have some sort of data recovery software available to you. If it's Lexar, I've used their recovery software after formatting the card with excellent results. If your card manufacturer doesn't have any data recovery software then visit this site for links to help, advice and software: //www.ultimateslr.com/memory-card-recovery.php

Check your memory card manufacturers website. They may have some data recovery software. If not, here's a link to a site that will help guide you through the process. Don't worry, it's not lost.

Sorry for the double post. I'm a newbie and thought my post would show up at the top.
Apologies all around.
