original

tamer

Posted full size for comparison.

Not the way I would go.

The original appears to be a late summer shot while the altered version looks more like late spring. Is this species of dragonfly abundant in your area in late spring?

As a rule, news images and nature shots should not be altered unless they are to carry with them a notification of the alteration.

Why not just go for the full effect?

Thanks, I like this one as it leaves the natural colors while bringing the dragonfly out. In the end I agree with nsbca7 that if I want as natural a shot as possible for Audubon use I need to go back and reshoot to find a cleaner background. Although this is a reasonable alternative.

P.S. - wow - I did not know this simple shot would generate such dicussion. I love it!

Looks more like liquid drops on sugar cubes. Boy, it's been a long time.

Audubon use?
Never saw any mention of that.
My bad.

Actually I like the original a lot more than any of the edited ones you have presented. Hate it when a photograph has been overedited. My suggest would be to just blur the background a bit more.

No problem Brad. I did not mention it unitl a later post as it would be the likely use for this shot. I sometimes donate notecards to the local Audubon Chapter auction.
